1st Annual Carl V. Sicola Charity Golf Classic
On Monday, May 21, 2012 the 1st Annual Carl V. Sicola Charity Golf Classic will take place at the Maplewood Country Club in Maplewood, New Jersey. For those of you not familiar with Carl, he was a 1962 graduate of SPFHS and a Scotch Plains Police Officer for 27 years, retiring as a
Detective in 1995. Carl received countless letters of commendation during his time at SPPD. He
was instrumental in starting both the DARE and DECA programs for the children of Scotch Plains-Fanwood. The one resounding comment by many people who knew or met Carl was that he quickly became your friend. He was also a devout parishioner of St. Bartholomew’s Church
and a fierce supporter of St. Bartholomew Academy. Through this golf outing, we hope to honor Carl’s memory and dedication to his faith. We hope you will join us in doing so.
This event will raise vital funds for renovations to the kitchen at SBA. In addition to providing lunches to the students, this kitchen serves the parish and surrounding community in many capacities. It is used regularly by the Holy Name Society, Rosary Altar Society, Knights of Columbus, Youth Group and many other parish organizations. Annually, it is used for the Men’s
and Women’s Cornerstone Retreats, Parish Picnic, Pancake Breakfast, Spaghetti Dinner and Breakfast with Santa and, perhaps most importantly, this kitchen provides nutritious meals to local families who have been displaced from their homes and receive assistance from the Home First Program. It is very fitting that this kitchen be built in Carl’s honor as he loved to cook.
Through your generosity the dream of "Carl's Kitchen" can be realized. For over 60 years St. Bartholomew Academy has been educating the youth of Scotch Plains - Fanwood, Plainfield and surrounding communities. SBA is a thriving educational institution dedicated to providing an intellectual and creative atmosphere for academic achievement, enriching students' character and competencies; and guiding students toward higher Christian values. One of the most difficult challenges SBA faces today are the rising operational costs. Housed in an aging building, many updates need to be continually made.
We have a large fundraising goal for this event and hope you will support us in achieving this goal. Donations, regardless of size, are welcomed and greatly appreciated.
