FANWOOD-SCOTCH PLAINS YMCA APPOINTS NEW CHIEF EXECUTIVE OFFICER

The Fanwood-Scotch Plains YMCA is pleased to announce the appointment of Kimberley Decker as the organization’s new Chief Executive Officer to replace retiring CEO Karin Drexler. 

Ms. Decker comes to the Fanwood-Scotch Plains YMCA from her position as Executive Vice-President, Chief Operating Officer of the YMCA of Eastern Union County in Elizabeth, New Jersey, where she has led philanthropic and fundraising activities, business services and information technology, and supported strategic planning and operations management.

“I am very excited to be joining the Fanwood-Scotch Plains YMCA staff team.  I am looking forward to getting to know, not only the staff, but the Boards’ of Trustees and Directors, members, volunteers, donors and community. The Y Boards’ deep commitment, visionary leadership and
its professional staff’s considerable accomplishments have combined to create exciting opportunities for the YMCA,” Ms. Decker said.  “I am honored to join this progressive
organization to advance the YMCA mission in the areas of Youth Development, Healthy Living and Social Responsibility.

Ms. Decker began her career with the YMCA movement with the YMCA of Eastern Union County as a Senior Program Director of School Age Child Care in 1989. Ms. Decker also served as a Branch Executive of the YMCA of Eastern Union, an Executive Director of the YMCA of the East Bay in Fremont, CA and the Director of Operations at the Somerset Valley YMCA before returning to the YMCA of Eastern Union County in 2002.  Most notably, Ms. Decker has overseen the completion of two major construction projects and is currently overseeing an $8,000,000 renovation of the Elizabeth Branch of the Eastern Union County Y, while helping to support an increase in operating revenues over a four year period of over $1,500,000.  During her career, Ms. Decker has served on a variety of non-profit and professional association boards, as well as serving on the Union Township Chamber of Commerce, of which she is a Past-President.

Robert Evans, YMCA Board of Directors President and Search Committee member, said “Ms. Decker’s appointment concludes an exhaustive nationwide search that attracted a large field of extremely qualified candidates.  I am excited to work with her to continue to
build on the quality programs and services we provide to the communities we serve.”

Welcoming Ms. Decker to the communities served by Fanwood-Scotch Plains YMCA will be a shared priority for the Board, staff and volunteers who will be working closely with her to ensure that she learns all that our communities
have to offer, and all the Y can do to advance its critical mission. Her appointment begins October 8th.
