In a press release from The Fanwood-Scotch Plains YMCA:  The Fanwood-Scotch Plains YMCA in Scotch Plains opened its doors to the community for Healthy Kids Day, a YMCA Initiative and free community event on Saturday, April 28, 2012. 

Over 250 parents, community members and children came together to celebrate healthy living principles.  The staff provided high energy, interactive and a fun atmosphere.  The event boosted many activities to keep participants engaged.  Both pools including the Y’s new pool was open for Open Swim, Obstacle Course, Gymnastics, Face Painting, Carnival Games, Arts & Crafts, Sports Samplers, Camp Open House, Family Games, Races and much more were enjoyed by all. 

Participants enjoyed snacks such as yogurt parfaits and fruit cups.  They also had the opportunity to try a few new foods; hummus, guacamole and sweet potato fries!  The snack gave them plenty of energy to head to the gym and participate in hula hoop contests, three-legged races, musical chairs and a Go, Slow & Whoa Food Relay Race. 

The Y is the perfect place to stay active all year long.  Healthy Kids Day was a great start for some community members to begin their journey to making smarter food choices and getting active.  They got to take tours of the recently renovated Y facility which includes a Wellness Center, two pools, Co-ed Adult Whirlpool, Fitness and Dance Class Studio Rooms, Adult Locker Rooms Complex, Family Locker Rooms, Fitness Testing, Air-Conditioned Gymnasium, Child Watch and more!
