patching...
Welcome back, Patch Blogger!

After the Conventions: Who Will Win the 2012 Presidential Election, Obama or Romney?

Now that the Democratic and Republican delegates have officially chosen their nominees, Patch wants to know: Who are you betting on?

It's official: With President Barack Obama's acceptance speech in Charlotte Thursday night, both the Republicans and Democrats have formally chosen their nominees for the 2012 presidential election. Let the real race begin.

A lot can change between now and Nov. 6: Gaffes, scandals or even major international news events could shift the dynamics of the campaign.

The latest Gallup polls show registered voters preferring Obama to Mitt Romney by just one percentage point, 47 percent to 46 percent. A USA Today/Gallup poll taken just before the party conventions found American voters think Obama is more likeable, but trust Romney more to handle the economy.

Pundits have been busy for months handicapping the major-party candidates on various factors: incumbent advantage, fundraising clout, even religion.

Patch wants to know: Regardless of who you support for President, who do you think will actually claim victory in November?

Vote in our poll below, and let us know your reasoning in the comments.

  • Who do you think will win the 2012 U.S. presidential election?

(Voting has been closed for this question)
    • Barack Obama
        160 (45%)
    • Mitt Romney
        183 (52%)
    • Other answer (Please explain in the comments.)
        5 (1%)
    Total votes: 348
  • Your vote will only count once. This is not a scientific poll. View Results Vote!

Remember seniors, Obamacare has already cut your medicare, higher co-pays, certain drugs that are aimed at seniors not allowed under Part D. Most important, is the fact that wanted to take God out of their platform. These are the ones that want to kill the unborn by abortion up to and including the 8th and 9th month. Also remember Obama was the ONLY IL state senator that voted against the bill to protect those born alive AFTER an abortion. THREE TIMES !!!

Your statement about the effect of the health care provisions on Medicare is patently false. Your pathetic attempt to scare seniors into voting Republican is shameful. I am upset that the Democrats caved and added God to the platform, as I believe the outdated notion of supreme being should have no place in politics. I could write more to address other nonsense in your comment, but I fear no amount of reasonable discourse will ever change your views.

Leonard, you are entitled to not believe in God and be upset others do. But beware of doubting a higher power and purpose for it has given many common men inspiration to do selfless and amazing acts of both good and evil. These "silly" beliefs in a higher power greater then ourselves, most likely and God willing, will be the only thing that saves us from our own vanity, arrogance and selfishness.

paul taylor usually someone would have to be wearing a thomas jefferson colonial hat in the walmart parking lot to spew this kind of nonsense to scare seniors. first of all obamacare doesnt kick in until 2014 so how has it " cut' people's medicare already? it also closes the medicare donut hole which will save seniors a lot of money on their prescriptions. it also keeps in place the medicaid needed as the extension of senior's medicare that is covering the cost of them living in nursing homes. save your ' theyre stealing God from us" and worry a little more why not one republican speaker last week even mentioned our troops or even acknowledge we,ve been at war a decade already. it was a disgrace. so far almost every democrat speaker has spent time out of what they were saying to thank our troops and keep the fact that they need our help once they get back home. this country is tired of the wackos and religious nuts. we have a lot to do and its an annoying distraction.

Good luck trying to find a doctor or other provider of services to seniors after Obamacare cuts payment to medicare providers by 714 billion dollars to pay for Obamacare. Many doctors and others who serve seniors are already unhappy about the payments they receive from medicare. Under Obamacare those payments will be reduced even more. Many doctors will will stop taking new medicare patients or go into a different speciality.

And how do you think Obama will pay for Obamacare......Sell your home and 3.8% goes to the feds, a 1099 for what your employer paid for your medical insurance (as if it was an income, 40% tax on it) new taxes on lawn care, 2.3% tax on medical durable good (walkers, canes, braces, wheelchairs...) 10% on tanning, new tax on over the counter drugs, $695.00-$4,100.00 (depending on income) fine if you don't have insurance. All of this will be watched by the 1,600 new IRA agents Obama plans on hiring.

The fun will start when all the Obama supporters start crying when they go to sell their home and all the new taxes take affect.

Wake up people Obama is bad for America.

To the other Jersey,
Excuse me for trying to keep it simple. Many on medicare have supplemental medicare ins. Medicare trustees agree those plans can see an increase in premiums or a reduction in benefits.
Insurance companies like any business will look to pass the increase cost on to the consumer. In this case either the senior or the doctors who provide those services.

Jersey Always....Who do you think bears the brunt of the cuts to insurance companies? It's the doctors AND the policy holders. Physician reimbursements have gone down, patient premiums and co-pays have increased, malpractice insurance has gone up and tort reform is no where in sight. So much for reform. If you think it will be better with the feds running it....well let me remind you that a toilet seat at the Dept. of Defense costs only $740.

If there are some doctors that are unhappy about the financial compensation they have been receiving, perhaps we should give scholarships to young people to fill these anticipated voids. I have more empathy for the families and seniors that are struggling to pay healthcare and insurance costs. All the doctors I know are doing very well financially. Certainly there are talented young people that will fill that void.

Charlotte - In the America I know, the best and the brightest are compensated accordingly. It's called supply and demand. Being a plumber does not require the same skill set as being a brain surgeon. Hence, there are more plumbers in the world than there are brain surgeons. As the aunt of a young man training to be an orthopedic surgeon, you are looking at nearly 12+ years of post-high school education. I think that the sacrifice of time and money is enormous and the vast majority of high school seniors do not have the stomach for it or the work ethic to endure it. If you want to federalize medical schools as well, dear Lord...is there anything that we the citizens can do on our own? ANYTHING? As far as physicians' compensation is concerned, have you been to the doctor's office lately? They have become factories due to the reduced reimbursement rates, increased malpractice premiums and lack of tort reform. Wait times are up, the amount of time the doctor spends with you is down, the ability to get a timely appt with a specialist is harder. I do not begrudge anyone their wealth. I think that when it is earned honestly, the sky should be the limit. I surely work harder so that I can make more. I do not imagine that the same does not hold true for most Americans. Wait until the president's healthcare plan kicks in. We need to reform INSURANCE not healthCARE.

It's the economy, stupid. Romney will win easily. Unfortunately for the Campaigner-in-Chief his opponent is very well qualified, has more money to spend in key markets, and has surrounded himself with quality people who know about strategic planning and execution.

The Complainer-in-Chief has nothing to run on other than dividing the nation:
But of course, he's for Women, Seniors, Juniors, College Students, The Middle Class, the Poor, Veterans, Gays, One-eyed people, people who drive cars, and people who eat 3 meals a day, so if you belong to one of these classes, you must vote for him or else you're just in favor of tax breaks for the wealthy.

The biggest problem with Obamacare is that it is not about health care, it is all about health insurance. Obamacare involves trillions of increased government spending and taxes. Worst of all is that it involves a loss of control over, and the quality of, our own health care.

Obama’s introduction and passing of the Stimulus Bill, costing the country a trillion dollars, and wasting our national wealth.

Obama’s appointment of Leon Panetta as CIA director, a man who has not had any professional experience within the CIA. A blunder of great proportions – Panetta is not an insider, and has no working knowledge of the agency’s intricate details.

Obama’s appointment of Rahm Emanuel to Chief of Staff – a former director of the failed Freddie Mac.

Obama’s commitment to close Guantanamo, and grant terrorists the same judicial rights as American citizens.

Obama’s appointment of Chas Freeman for position of chairman of the National Intelligence Board, who has had deep financial ties to Saudi Arabia, and who has held anti-Semitic views regarding Israel.

Obama’s appointment of Tom Daschle for position of Health and Human Services Director. Tom Daschle was found guilty of tax-evasion for at least $180,000

This is the man that helped get Clinton elected President twice, and Governor of AR three times. You should watch this video...this is NOT a "phony."

This is Dick Morris who used to work for the Clinton administration, he is a respected news contributor and author.

He knows what he is talking about. He investigates before reporting etc.

This is going to affect everyone!

Romney, the corporate raider, tax evader, doesn't really want to DO the job. He just wants to HAVE the job. He has no clue about foreign policy and neither does that little liar, hypocrite, Paul Ryan. The Republicans appeal to those who RESENT the poor - the sub middle class white guys who have a big chip on their shoulder because they haven't made it themselves. So instead of resenting the super rich who have stacked the deck in their own favor, they resent the poor. Nice work, Koch brothers - you are trying to buy this election and keep people from voting. If Romney wins, he will be a illigitimate president because he has knowingly lied (about the Welfare work requirment) and oppressing the vote. If Romeny wins it will be an illigitate win - just like George Bush - who was such a disaster that they refuse to mention his name in all their ads and speeches. But they profess the same policies as George Bush - exactly the same that got this country to the brink of disaster.

To Ric, your challenge is flawed. There is a very significant chance that we will be at war with Iran before November. Think about it. If Obama wins, Iran will be emboldened to strike at Israel because they know Obama has no use for Israel except in order to get the Jewish vote. After November, he will not care anymore because he won't be running again. So Israel may strike first before the election figuring Obama will support them in order to keep the Jewish vote. Why do you think his people keep floating stories about an Israeli strike on Iran? It is in order to keep Iran on alert to foil and/or discourage such a raid. Do you really believe that platform "plank" supporting the Palestinians over Israel was an accident, HAH?

jennifer

11:46 am on Friday, September 7, 2012

Apparently, he didn't but that is because the lobbyists he and the super rich hire to influence congress make laws that allow someone to pay tax on investments differently that we all do on income. He is paying on 28 million less than 15%. The super rich do whatever they want. He is hiding money in Swiss bank accounts. I can't do that. I think the minimum requirement for a Presidential candidate should be that they keep their money in the US. Of course, you - sub middle class who probably pays 30% will find this "evasion" admirable but being a good tax paying citizen should be a requirment for the biggest job in the US The Republicans, in their - every man for himself - mentality find Romney's conduct acceptable. But I am appalled by his selfishness. He told young people if they want to start a business, to borrow money from their parents. This guy has no clue and you are a sucker to back him - because you are not super rich and will be used and abused by these Republicans

The fact is that taxes on capital gains are lower than taxes on earned income because they are a second time tax. First you earn income and pay income taxes on it, then you invest that income, then you are taxed again on the profit you make, if any. The problemis not that taxes on capital gains are lower. The problem is that capital gains are taxed at all.

Jennifer - Lets get something clear - THE TAX CODE IS SCREWED UP! and needs to be scrapped, personally I think we should ALL pay a flat tax on all income. From those who make $1 to 1 trillon doesn't matter - everyone needs to pay taxes. We can argue about the rates later. You state he is "hiding" money in a Swiss account, but what he is doing is perfect financial planning for those who have money. He is diversfing his money like what we ALL should do with any investing, and yes you can put money in Swiss accounts, but you are propably like me and don't have that much "spare" money to invest over there. The average middle class pays the 28% rate but after they use their loopholes pay an effective rate around 20%. We all use loopholes. I find what he does with his money is his business, just like what you do with yours. As long as what he is doing is legal then good for him - reb or dem. What I find immoral about this arguement is the underlining tone that because he made money, invested money, payed his legal share of taxes he is somehow "corrupt" because he is somehow defrauding the goverment, as if the money belonged to the gov, IT DOESN'T! As long as its legal then more power to him and to you!

Your argument is a prime example of how liberals can't keep their argument never mind justify it.

"He told young people if they want to start a business, to borrow money from their parents."

Your friend Barack said that no American made their business unassissted. I dont know how thats true when he spent 100% of the time bailing out an auto industry. He just like you can't justify an argument.

As I read the responses from Obama supporters on this thread, I am struck by the fact that there are only two possible reasons to support Obama: 1) a complete lack of understanding about Obama's policies and proposals or 2) a dedication to the destruction of this country as we know it and its replacement with a socialist state. Those in the second category are hopeless lost. There is however hope for those in the first category. My plea to you: Please read up on the facts, learn the truth, do not be fooled by the false rhetoric you hear from Obama and his shills in the mainstream media, and reassess your position. Spooner..no bias here! Parents were dems, so i thought i was a dem in my younger years. As i grew older, paid more attention to politics, realized dems were not actually helping people get out of proverty, but actually helping keep them there. There would be generations of families on welfare. Welfare to work reform encouraged work and many for the first time felt good about themselves. Now Pres Obama gutted that reform, now reading a book is concidered " work", thus discouraging recipients from getting off the welfare roll. This keeps them "dependant" on the gov't, which in turn keeps recipients voting democratic to keep the checks coming. Big gov = Pres Obama = dependant recipients. Just look at cities such as chicago, los angeles, newark, miami, to name a few where millions are sent to help residents, the only ones benefiting are the mayors in those cities and their cronies.

simpletruth...well your right about cronyism and corruption. Been going on for a long time. Part of America's history. But he cut to the quick on welfare, where he accused Romney of baldly lying to voters when he claims Obama is gutting the welfare work requirement.

“Here's what happened," Clinton said. "When some Republican governors asked to try new ways to put people on welfare back to work, the Obama administration said they would only do it if they had a credible plan to increase employment by 20 percent. You hear that? More work. So the claim that President Obama weakened welfare reform's work requirement is just not true...

PS: they've(DNC) been making this point for some time about Romney's ads regarding welfare?

...and I don't know what reading a book. . .has to do with work...but whatever?

The Klan had this nationalistic identity that it maintained favored them as white native[?] citizens, and saw Blacks and immigrants as a threat to that right in their way of life and economic security. How it expanded is another thing, but when it was formed, by southern democrats, that was its purpose. Recall the attacks on Ann Romney and her horse?
So the Romney's are selfish of keeping a horse?
And employing a groom with a family to support?
How about the feed sold by someone with a family
to support and transported in trucks by someone
with a family to support ... and manufactured by
people with jobs and families to support from all
the stuff that's grown by farmers with families to
support?
And how about the barn built by a construction crew
with families to support with materials trucked by
the drivers with families to support from factories with
workers with families to support?
SOUNDS LIKE THAT ONE HORSE HAS DONE MORE TO
PUT AMERICANS TO WORK THAN PRESIDENT BARRACK
OBAMA ...

If you truly believe this, I've love to see how you get Romney to 270 electoral votes let alone a landslide.

I'd actually say that the Republican party has been taken over by the extreme right, leaving Dems to run as centrist candidates. The right has called Obama socialist for passing his 'Obamacare', yet this is really a plan put forth by Nixon, Dole and Romney at the state level. It is actually a Republican plan. The Leftist plan was single payer, the centralist plan was medicare for all, the right's plan mandated healthcare.
As for this fallacy that Dems and Obama has free reign for the first two years, is to forget how anything put forth was filibustered. In fact It didn't even start with Obama. Republicans in Congress starting in the 110th Congress blocked 110 bills. Bills dealing with stimulus and recovery from the President in their own party. So not only did Obama walk into a political hornets nest, he had to deal with an economy on the brink of disaster... And Romney appoints as Vice President a guy who ran the revolt, not a bridge to actually get things done with both parties. But the guy who helped create the wedge. And lets not forget, that Romney still has yet to explain how he can cut the debt and go through with his tax cuts... Most economists say that not only will his plan raise taxes for most people, but rapidly grow the debt. This isn't name calling, or gotcha politics of I'm right you are wrong... It is just what happened.

By modern conservative platform, I'm referring to the republican party. This party does not necessarily offer less government, unless you're big business. Most modern Republicans would sooner allow an oil company to risk destroying a coastline before they acknowledge that the love that exists between two men is the same as the love for their own spouse. To me, that is absolute absurdity and I don't know how someone can intelligently defend that. I'm unsure what you mean by responsibility and accountability. The wars in the middle east were intentionally left off the federal budget and no we're all stuck figuring out how to pay for it! That doesn't sound very responsible.

Barry Soetoro aka Barack Obama couldn't pass the security clearance/background check to work emptying garbage cans at the FBI, but somehow you people want to re-elect him President.

This is what amazes me about the modern LIBERAL platform:

* Their party leader couldn't get a job an ANY federal agency based on questionable background, travel to foreign countries, and that his Social Security Number does not match his alleged birth state.

* Their Vice President was caught committing plagiarism in college and was forced to drop out of a Presidential bid because of plagiarism (Joe Biden)

* Their most celebrated speaker at the DNC is an impeached former President, committed perjury, fined $25K for it -- and was surrendered his law license rather than face perjury charges and/or disbarment from the Arkansas Supreme Court.

* Their other celebrated speaker at the DNC was caught lying about her "minority" status claim -- that she was a "Native American" -- and was able to get teaching positions at colleges based on her false claim (Elizabeth Warren).

DOES ANY OF THIS BOTHER DEMOCRATS? IT'S ALL TRUE!!

First off, that isn't the platform.
Do you seriously think that Obama would fail a FBI background check? The guy has his finger on the button and is the leader of the free world. And has been for almost 4 years.
Clinton... The guy is one of the most popular political figures in the country. He did more for our economy then any R since the great war.
Warren is part Native American.... She received no preferential treatment from a former Reagan admin member who hired her. So you can continue to play the politics of name calling and finger pointing.... But as much as you like to point out how you embarrass people here.. There are two people running. One pulled us out of the fire even as the other side gave up on governing and only politicked, and another who has never held a position long enough to actually say what he stands for... Reagan no/yes Obamacare YES//no
pick an issue Romney has had two sides of it. and you know that so you go after these fringe TMZ politics of shame and that have nothing to do with the running of the country or better put, how the running of the country will effect our lives and make us better off... if anyone is embarrassed on Patch it is you. cause you can't hold a logical discussion. It is all about proving that some meaningless anecdote is right, not what is right for the nation. and when you start a comment using "Barry Soetoro" you expose that you just are just a hater of the president.. and someone on the radical fringe.

Warren claims to be part native American, 1/32 to be exact. Her claim is based on Family stories. Warren has shown no factual evidence to her claim. There is no evidence in tribal records to back her claim. Warren has refused to meet with native American leaders several times, most recently at the DNC convention, to discuss her claim. One of the reasons Warren put this on her app to Harvard, as Warren has said, was to meet "fellow" native Americans. If that was the case why wo'nt she now meet with them?

Your justification of Warren is pathetic. The woman LIED about her ancestry to get her teaching position. That, Patrick, is called "theft by deception."

Your other lame statement: "Warren is part Native American.... She received no preferential treatment..." is 100% false. She got PAID for her LIE by Harvard because according to Boston.com “...for at least six straight years during Warren’s tenure, Harvard University reported in federally mandated diversity statistics that it had a Native American woman in its senior ranks at the law school,” despite the fact that Warren had been unable to produce a Native American ancestor, instead attributing her belief to family stories." Joey, I am familiar with Romney's tax plan. He is saying that he will pay for the tax cuts for the rich by eliminating loopholes. Of course we have to guess which loopholes, and many economists have said the only way to do this is the elimination of the Alternative Minimum Tax, and the Home mortgage interest credit. The Romney camp has said the latter is off the table. So how does he do it? capital gains? So you are asking me to vote for a guy who can't even divulge his own tax plan.

as for Obama, of course there are more people on food stamps. In fact I know a former co worker who was laid off at 58 is paying his mortgage off his 401k, and he was on food stamps for a few months till he landed some consulting gigs. Think he wanted to collect them? no but it put food on his table when he could barely afford to pay his bills off his savings. and it helped him not have to foreclose...

And you think Romney will help with foreclosures? He is the guy who said that letting homes go to foreclosure is the solution to the housing market. While Obama was pushing job bills, the tea party house was busy debating social issues... Why not go listen to Clinton's speech from the other night. Romney will have your kids even more down the road.

"As for this fallacy that Dems and Obama has free reign for the first two years, is to forget how anything put forth was filibustered."

Patrick - Its no fallacy that the Dems had free reign during portions of Obama's term. The filibustering came from the Dem party. Remember Ben Nelson and the Cornhusker Kickback? Take a look at the Senate voting record for the Affordable Health Care Act .
http://www.senate.gov/legislative/LIS/roll_call_lists/roll_call_vote_cfm.cfm?congress=111&session=1&vote=00395
It passed 60-39 and not a single R voted yea. During this time, the Dems had free reign to pass any legislation they wanted and the R could do nothing to stop them. They chose to tackle health care and not jobs, economy, debt, etc.

The argument isn't over health reform, it is that Obama had 2 years to fix the economy and didn't. Obamacare will reduce money from the debt, but job bills, stimulus, appointments... all held in committee, or filibustered. Thus the idea that he could do as he pleased is way off the mark.

But I have to ask myself as a person who makes less than 250k a year, will Romney be better for me? and the unequivocal answer is no. He talks about his tax cuts, but it would be a lot less for me under Romney then Obama. Romney says he'll pay for the tax cuts by closing loopholes in the tax code. But he doesn't say which. One that is pretty important to the mortgage interest deduction... Will he or won't he cut that. Many Republicans have said that is off the table, but how do we know for sure? Cause to get that 5 trillion you have to cut loopholes and deductions somewhere... and i can't see him cutting capital gains... so for me the choice is pretty clear. and that is Obama. Also, Romney will cut funding to the states even further, meaning that with him as President we will be on the hook for even higher property taxes, higher state fees, higher education costs.

1. The first 2 years Obama foolishly tried to work with the R's. Even after McConnell famously stated his #1 goal was to make Obama a 1 term president. Even to the detriment of our country. Obama finally saw the light when he was screamed at during his State of the Union address by a sitting senator who yelled "liar" during the address.
2. The apology tour garbage has been debunked numerous times and was actually similar to what Bushie did when he first came into office after stealing the election.
3. We the people garbage identifies you as another silly T-bagger, but I thought even through ( or threw for the ignorant TBer's) your blind rage for our president you would not call good manufacturing companies "losers". And by the way, any idea how many additional jobs would have been lost?

There's an interesting piece in today's NYDaily News which discusses how this loan was started under GW Bush. It's quite enlightening. I guess the Koch Brothers will withhold some of their billions if Romney ever so slightly admitted that yes - global warming is happening. I guess he didn't check with them like he usually does before he speaks. Here is a guy who knows nothing about foreign policy either. Here is a guy who wants to pull Planned Parenthood funding and repleal Obamacare but has no plan on how to replace these things. Here is a guy who did a foreign trip and flubbed his way all over Europe, starting with the UK. Here is a guy who made his money on the backs of the middle class as a corporate raider. When his wife boo hooed about her ms diagnosis, someone should have asked her if she had health insurance when she was diagnosed. At least she had health insurance, didn't she or her situation would have been much worse as it is for many Americans with no insurance. And Obama said, if you built your own business, you didn't do it in a vacuum - which is true and his speech, once again was distorted and twisted by the right. The extreme right is UGLY as evidenced right here on the Patch. You people are UGLY

Barack Obama is going to be re-elected because the GOP picked an awful, awful candidate to run against him. Willard Mittens Romney is an uninspiring cross between Ward Cleaver & Paris Hilton - an extremely clean-cut trust fund baby who has never had to truly struggle for one day in his life and wants to impose his lifestyle and neo-fascist views on the rest of the country. With his numerous tax hikes on those who can least afford them (the Romneycare individual mandate, toll hikes, increasing the gasoline tax, raising vehicle registration fees, support for a Value Added Tax/VAT at the federal level), he has proven that he can not identify with the challenges that most people have to go through in their lives. His vehement opposition to rights for same sex couples, medicinal marijuana, and hinting at a "war on pornography" proves that he opposes the American way of allowing people to live their lives as they wish.

We all know Mittens has been blessed with an extremely privileged upbringing: advantages which allowed him to attend private school, go to Harvard University, start a venture capital company at a pretty young age, and a stuck-up attitude which made him refrain from ever serving this country in the Armed Forces (ditto for his songs). That's bad enough. But he was so abysmal as MA Governor, he declined to seek a second term because he knew a double digit defeat was imminent, and his seat was turned over to a Democrat for the first time in 16 years.

Romney's government health care plan, dozens of tax hikes, carbon taxes and other irresponsible policies piled on debt, made the state more anti-business, and left his state at 47th place in the nation in overall job creation.

We all know that Obama has been a massive failure during his time in office. But the answer was not to run someone who is equally incompetent to oppose him. By nominating someone as weak as Mittens, it's as if the GOP wanted to lose this year for some reason, From issues as diverse as the tax code, health care, the Second Amendment, the Federal Reserve, the war on drugs, and bailouts (a.k.a. corporate welfare), it's startling just how much the two candidates are in complete agreement. If you're paying close attention to this race, it really does make you scratch your head and wonder what GOP voters were thinking.

I'm a registered Republican. The GOP should have picked a candidate that the entire base could get behind. Instead, they picked a limousine liberal who says and does anything to get votes just like your typical politician, and has nothing going for him other than the ability to self-fund his campaign. He has the same positions and is funded by the same special interests as the current President. It baffles me that so few people are capable of seeing that. I'm sorry, but I see absolutely nothing in Mittens that makes him worth voting for. I can't in good conscience support someone who I know will fail. I'm going third party.

Romney is dancing to the tunes played by the rabid bible thumpers. I am an old school republican, a moderate like Nixon. I will dance with joy with the far right's defeat this November. The Republican Party needs to work on fostering job growth in America and to hell with the far right's social agenda. Let's get American business back on track.

I said that if someone was found guilty of tax evasion, that the IRS would enlist the use of a local sheriff. I said that IRS agents who are armed are doing stake outs on mob criminals and that ilk. I don't recall the DHS conversation... but here again is the problem. You don't have a level context to argue with, its arguing details that are not germane to the real issue.

What is the point of the constant question of Obama's legal writings, you know there is one. Don't you have the guts to actually say what you mean, or is it a dog whistle campaign... There were a number of ways Michelle Obama insulted the intelligence of the American public on Tuesday. Having had her husband previously assert his concept of "you didn't build that yourself", Michelle Obama immediately set off on a journey to try to contradict him. She attempted to show that she and Barack did build it all by themselves by telling the following lies: 1. Michelle said they both came from families which didn't have much. WRONG.

DJGigs

4:58 pm on Sunday, September 9, 2012

Barack's Grandmother, Madelyn Dunham, was a VP at the Bank of Hawaii who paid for the expensive tuition for Barack and his sister at one of Hawaii's most exclusive private schools. DOUBLE WRONG. A review of Michelle and Barack's tax returns show they were trust fund babies, receiving money from TWO family trusts. 2. She claimed that she and her brother went through college with nothing but student loand and grants. WRONG: Her brother was Craig Robinson. He was the super player on Princeton University's basketball team before he went on to be drafted by the NBA. Sniff! Sniff! I SMELL a whole lot of money in BASKETBALL SCHOLARSHIPS. 3. She asserted that Obama's grandmother, Madelyn Dunham, started working as a bank tellter.and was a victim of the glass ceiling. WRONG. Madelyn Dunham broke the glass ceiling. Obama never told that Madelyn Dunham was one of the first female VP at the Bank of Hawaii. 4. Michelle said that one of the reasons her husband supported the Lilly Ledbetter Act was so that other women would not experience the same discrimination as his grandmother. WRONG AGAIN: As a lawyer, Michelle Obama should know the Lilly Ledbetter Act did not cover promotions and hiring. It only covers equal pay issues. 5. Michelle deliberatly omitted the discrimination that Madelyn Dunham DID face. Madelyn faced discrimination because she was WHITE and not a native Hawaiian.

DJGigs

58% of them keep a gun, 39% are evangelical, 36% hail from the south (or Ocean City, same difference) 24% say it is sometimes justified to take violent action against the government, (hence the gun, I guess) 53% describe themselves as angry, 29% are 65 or older and 98% are white, 66% say they favor Sarah Palin as their most popular figure. - asked to volunteer what they don't like about Obama, they just say - they just don't like him. 63% say they get all their news from the Fox network. DJGigs

9:01 am on Monday, September 10, 2012

While we were all debating the cost to our liberty due to the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (Obamacare), we were ignoring the cost to our pockets. If there ever was a reason for bipartisan rage about this law, it should be on the twenty - yes, twenty - hidden new taxes of this law. Making matters even more relevant is that seven of these taxes are levied on all citizens regardless of income. Hence, Mr. Obama’s promise not to raise taxes on anyone earning less than $250,000 is just another falsehood associated with this legislation.
The first, and best known, of these seven taxes that will hit all Americans as a result of Obamacare is the Individual Mandate Tax (no longer concealed as a penalty). This provision will require a couple to pay the higher of a base tax of $1,360 per year, or 2.5% of adjusted growth income starting with lower base tax and rising to this level by 2016. Individuals will see a base tax of $695 and families a base tax of $2,085 per year by 2016.

DJGigs

9:01 am on Monday, September 10, 2012

Next up is the Medicine Cabinet Tax that took effect in 2011. This tax prohibits reimbursement of expenses for over-the-counter medicine, with the lone exception of insulin, from an employee’s pre-tax dollar funded Health Saving Account (HSA), Flexible Spending Account (FSA) or Health Reimbursement Account (HRA). This provision hurts middle class earners particularly hard since they earn enough to actually pay federal taxes, but not enough to make this restriction negligible.
The Flexible Spending Account (FSA) Cap, which will begin in 2013, is perhaps the most hurtful provision to the middle class. This part of the law imposes a cap of $2,500 per year (which is now unlimited) on the amount of pre-tax dollars that could be deposited into these accounts. Why is this particularly hurtful to the middle class?

DJGigs

9:03 am on Monday, September 10, 2012

It is because funds in these accounts may be used to pay for special needs education for special needs children in the United States. Tuition rates for this type of special education can easily exceed $14,000 per year and the use of pre-tax dollars has helped many middle income families.
Another direct hit to the middle class is the Medical Itemized Deduction Hurdle which is currently 7.5% of adjusted gross income.

DJGigs

9:03 am on Monday, September 10, 2012

This is the hurdle that must be met before medical expenses over that hurdle can be taken as a deduction on federal income taxes. Obamacare raises this hurdle to 10% of adjusted gross income beginning in 2013. Consider the middle class family with $80,000 of adjusted gross income and $8,000 of medical expenses. Currently, that family can get some relief from being able to take a $2,000 deduction (7.5% X $80,000 = $6,000; $8,000 –$6,000 = $2,000). An increase to 10% would eliminate the deduction in this example and if that family was paying a 25% federal tax rate, the real cost of that lost deduction would be $500.

DJGigs

9:03 am on Monday, September 10, 2012

The fifth new tax on the middle class, and all Americans, is the Health Savings Account (HSA) Withdrawal Tax Hike. This provision increases the additional tax on non-medical early withdrawals from an HSA from 10% currently to 20% beginning in 2013. This provision actually sets these accounts apart from Investment Retirement Accounts (IRAs) and other tax advantaged accounts, all of which remain with a 10% early withdrawal tax.

DJGigs

9:04 am on Monday, September 10, 2012

Another regressive tax that is part of this law began in 2010 and that is the Indoor Tanning Services Tax, which places a 10% excise tax on people using tanning salons. While some may regard this as insignificant, the broader implication is that this act of taxation is a blatant move by the federal government to control the behavior of citizens. This provision, as does the Individual Mandate and as Justice Kennedy said during the oral arguments on the constitutionality of the law said, “….fundamentally changes the relationship between the federal government and the citizen.”

DJGigs

9:04 am on Monday, September 10, 2012

The seventh new tax that directly impacts the middle class, along with all citizens, is the Excise Tax on Comprehensive Health Insurance Plans or the “Cadillac” Health Insurance Plan Tax. These are plans that provide extensive coverage and that are generally fully paid for, or largely paid for, by employers. This provision imposes a 40% excise tax on the employer-paid premium on taxpayers who are covered by such plans, beginning in 2018. The reason it begins in 2018 is because most unionized workers are covered by plans that fall under this definition and a deferral was made to spare union members from this tax for at least a period of time.

DJGigs

9:05 am on Monday, September 10, 2012

There are thirteen other taxes that apply to businesses and that apply to high income (over $250,000 per year) households. While these additional provisions will not impact the middle class directly, they can have serious indirect consequences for middle and low income earners. Beginning in 2014, the Employer Mandate Tax will impose an annual non-deductible tax on employers with more than 50 employees who do not provide health insurance for their employees.

DJGigs

9:05 am on Monday, September 10, 2012

The impact of this provision on low and middle income earners, and really all working Americans, is that employers will be confronted with three choices. The first is provide some level of health insurance, as many do today, and there would be no impact on employees. The second choice is to pay the penalty, which would most likely be less expensive than providing health insurance, and force employees to seek their own health insurance or purchase it through federal government controlled state exchanges. Studies have estimated that 20 million Americans will lose their employee funded health insurance as a result of this provision and employers electing this option. The third choice is for employers to lay off employees, or not hire additional employees, because Obamacare forces them to either provide health insurance or pay the new tax.

DJGigs

9:06 am on Monday, September 10, 2012

Another new tax, the Tax on Medical Device Manufacturers that begins in 2013, places a 2.3% excise tax on all items retailing for more than $100. This provision will not only drive up the cost of various medical devices ranging from mobility assistance devices to personal testing supplies, but will also impact an industry that employs 360,000 people in 6,000 plants across our country. This tax, while not a direct tax, would have significant negative impact on the middle class.
The Surtax on Investment Income for households earning $250,000 and more, beginning in 2013, will raise the Capital Gains Tax from 15% to 23.8% on investment income for these households and will raise Taxes on Dividends from 15% to 43.4% for the same households. Aside from the impact on retired citizens dependent on dividends, this provision will pull income from the private economy. In addition, the tax rate on Other Investment Income earned by Subchapter S Corporation (which many small business are organized as, allowing the owners to claim all business income as personal income) will rise from 35% to 43.4%. This part of the provision would place additional pressure on small businesses resulting in more layoffs and less hiring, impacting all American workers.

Obamacare are directed at health industry businesses and while they will not impact middle income families directly, the additional costs will most likely be passed on to the public. The last new tax is really interesting, it is a tax on certain biofuels!
These are the facts. It does not matter if you support Mr. Obama and his new law or if you oppose it, the new taxes on the middle class or real and all Americans should understand their impact on their families and the economy. Citizens, regardless of political beliefs, should recognize that Obamacare was passed with almost no sunlight shined on these middle class tax increases and need to understand that the new law was sold with the promise that there would be no new middle class taxes. This is not partisan, it is simply the reality of politic

I am not fighting over any parties -- what I find amazing is how Democrats salute and praise known liars and cheats like Clinton, Edwards, Biden, Obama; etc., etc., etc.

As for not caring -- the biggest positive change one can still make is at the local level. Getting involved on your planning board, school board, city/town council is a sure-fire way to de-rail local and state politicians who are brain-washed by Socialist and Communist propaganda and help enact the nationally inspired insanity.

I Do Not Listen to any of them. I do not call someone a liar unless I can verify they distorted the truth, and not because I have some ridiculous hatred for one party over another. Emotion does not bode well in good decision making. I must also say I agree with Tom, who believes neither Party cares about us. If the Congress cared about us, they would put a law into effect that says if the deficit goes above 3% GDP, then every Congress person in office would be come ineligible for a second term (Warren Buffet's idea).

Robert McKenna, MIKE -- while the 3% GDP idea sounds good, the problem is the reality of what the Senate and Congress have turned into: a money pit for the American taxpayer and a cash cow for members on the Hill, the big businesses that control them, and the lobbyists that would sell the soul of their children if the price was right.

Scary stuff! This is why I keep pounding at the Dems/Lefties here on the fact that character counts.

The Republican Party's biggest mistake was for them all to sign a no tax increase pledge by an unelected blowhard. This pledge did away with the biggest bargaining chip... COMPRMISE. COMPROMISE is essential in government and to think "my way or the highway" is just STUPID. It never ever worked in the past, and it will never work in the future as long as we live in a Democracy. However, only if you include military spending and national defense as entitlements could I entertain your idea. Why? Because we would have another revolutionary war. "Let them Eat Cake" has about the same cold hearted ring as do away with all entitlements. The French Revolution was the result. History has shown us time and time again if you do away with the middle class you will have revolution. These are dangerous times when a CEO make 400 times what the average worker makes. Crops failed this year due to drought (Global Warming) and food costs are rising and you say do away with entitlements... does that mean corp welfare too? ie the richest corp in the world Exxon Mobile gets money from taxpayers... Get rid of all entitlements? Does that include Medicaid? Medicaid pays for the nursing home care of the elderly with Alzheimers and/or dementia. The residents of the nursing home first have to exhaust all their life savings before they can be eligible for Medicaid to pay for the nursing home which can cost $7,000 a month or much more. Of course Medicaid costs will be reduced if the elderly get a monthly pension payment and by their Social Security payments. Only a complete fool or some billionaire would want to get rid of Social Security, Medicare and Medicaid.

I have been told I am only a libertarian because they don't believe in making laws that do not affect other's freedom, ie "War on Drugs" is insane, and reprehensible, because it is a war on our own family members, often time victims themselves, we spend tax dollars to put them in jail. That guy keeps forgetting that he needs to check with his billionaire supporters before he speaks. He keeps getting smacked after he makes these statements and then has to retract them. Yes - good old Mitt is not his own man he is bought and paid for by the Koch Brothers and a couple others. We will ignore the fact that most beneficiaries of the welfare state are white and instead keep subtly painting a picture of black and brown people dragging us down because that appeals to our basest instincts and keeps us winning elections. And then when we regain power over national policy we will ignore those very voters and get on with policies that favor the very wealthiest (but only in the short term but who cares about 20 years from now!). We'll relegate the goofy, retrograde, viscious social policies to our republican governors and state legislatures so we can feed the anger, hatred, fear, greed and tribalism and we won't get blamed for it. Yenta? How rude. But not surprising because the left on these boards seem to love to use rude or derogatory terms when they cant argue the truth. It is true that when you bash 'big business' you do not realize the effect it has on all of the people they employ. Government employees operate on a big business model except with a lot more job security and ability to increase their pay than private ones. Who is big business? Starbucks? Target? Superfresh? Have you seen how many seniors and students they employ, how much they do for their communities and for charities? When brickmom says 'sent jobs overseas' she may be referring to NAFTA - and the fact is that while George Bush Sr approved it, it was passed under Clinton and with the effect of putting the US in a trade deficit with Canada and Mexico. And maybe it would be easier on all of us if the working people, like brick mom and her husband did not have to shoulder the tax burden for those 40+ percent who pay no federal income taxes at all. As for fact-checking (to Patrick) there is nothing wrong with fact checking - where the problem comes in is in using slanted sites like factcheck.org or snopes.com that have been shown to be inaccurate and whose input is influenced by their site operators.

The Democratic National Convention supporters Obama’s policies seem to support a basic non-negotiable position — namely, that the present economic malaise we find ourselves in is “their” fault, and that “we”
“They” are the haves, and “we” are the have-nots.

In support of this theory, Obama and Democratic supporters have installed the Dodd-Frank financial regulatory act, initiated a universal health insurance initiative, extended benefits to the unemployed and insist that the path to prosperity and full employment can be achieved by raising taxes.

A vibrant economy cannot be achieved by crippling banks, which are necessary to grow and start businesses. The Dodd-Frank bill did nothing to stop the one thing that almost collapsed the system, which is the utilization of credit default swaps.

Universal health insurance does nothing to inhibit runaway health care costs, but does create more governmental agencies to administer it.

Benefit extension does nothing to fulfill the ranks of employment in industries that need workers right now but cannot find workers with the proper skills, such as welding and engine mechanics.

Raising government revenue by increased taxation does nothing but help to pay back to the government the trillions it swamped into the system to stimulate the economy that now languishes on the balance sheets of banks and industries too scared and hampered by regulation to lend it or to expand their business.

"Bill had to play ball" I don't think so. . .Clinton stood up to them for one...and Newt wasn't the ideologue as others like to portray them as, when it came to wheeling and dealing in the House. Clinton became more popular: garnering 5% & 3 M more votes in 1996 over 1992, and the conservative wave appeared to have abated, when Ross Perot got less than 9% of the popular vote as a third party candidate in 96, versus 19% in 92.

The only reason the REpublicans swept the house in 2010 was because they put up road blocks against Obama's plan to help the economy and they sacrificed the American economy in that endeavor. These people have no scruples, no integrity Eric Cantor, Paul Ryan, Mith McConnel -have no qualms about telling blatant lies and using those lies to dupe the public. But no matter, Eleanor, John Jay - you are as irrelevant as the Republican Party. The RP does not represent this country anymore. It is a sliver of white people who blame the poor for their problems - who are anit women, anti gay, anti middle class. The poor have no power - it is the super rich who have the lobbyists and make the rules that have put the middle class in a downward spiral. But the RP is almost extinct in spite of their lies, their manipulations to keep their heads above water. They are a dying party and thankfully Eleanor and John Jay and those of that ilk, will die out with them.

Jennifer

And on Sept 11, we should remember that the Republicans were in office when they were warned that there was a major attack planned against the U.S. and they ignored that warning. Then they used that attack and the 3000 deaths in NY as an excuse to go into Iraq - because there was no reason to go into Iraq and cause the deaths of hundreds of thousands of Iraq people and American soldiers. Today, everyone should remember what the Republicans - Bush, Chaney, Rumsfeld, Rice did when they could and never give the Republicans a chance to do something like that again. And could Romney? Yes because he is nothing but a puppet and has no character of his own.

Spooner -- Which party controlled Congress in his first term and who controlled Congress after 1995. You need to understand some basic facts historical and political facts:

* 1994 U.S. midterm elections: Republicans sweep the House (54 seats) and Senate (8 seats).
* Gingrich became Speaker of the House
* 20 state legislatures fell under Republican control

While Clinton DID have veto power, the Republicans across the nation held him in check.

Frankly, I think Gingrich and the Republican leadership really missed many opportunities to ensure their domination in the Congress and across the nation. There were so many wasted opportunities that could have prevented the disaster that is the Obama Administration.

Can someone please translate this gibberish? What is 'CNN ELECTORAL COLLEGE'?

What does this mean: "ROMNEY WINS WITH A LANDSLIDE AS HIS SUPPORTERS
SIT HOME IN THEIR WELFARE FED LIVES"?

Sal, the CNN Electoral College map is a map anyone can click and change you can guess the outcome. It isn't red or blue or green.
this is my worst case map for Obama... and he still wins pretty handily.

My five year plan is to be laid-up up on some sort of work related injury and I'm not sure the money for the lawsuit will be enough to keep me in the lifestyle I've become accustom too. I may need some form of supplement from the government to pay for my medical marijuana. To help ease the pain and suffering.

and you do realize that the percentage of your taxes that goes to pay social programs in this country is 12% and that includes programs like Social Security and Unemployment. That is 435 billion... down from 495 in 2011. Now, of the 425 only 264 is what you think of when you think welfare. for 6%.

Four years ago, President Obama promised a deficit cut in half and unemployment drastically reduced. He had a House and Senate of his own party and stated that if he couldn’t get the job done in four years, he didn’t deserve to be re-elected.

In the last four years, our national debt has increased to more than $16 trillion. Unemployment is over 8 percent for 43 straight months, and approximately 8 percent of U.S. citizens are getting welfare benefits, including food stamps. The bailed-out auto industry still has to pay taxpayers back. Food, fuel and gasoline costs are at record highs, along with the overall cost of living.

The American taxpayers are being squeezed to empty. Almost half of the citizens don’t even pay federal income taxes, further burdening the other half. Small businesses are closing up or struggling mightily to survive.

DJGigs

8:48 am on Friday, September 14, 2012

The national health care mess still isn’t explaining where the money is coming from to pay for it. The Congressional Budget Office projects a national debt of more than $20 trillion during the course of another four years of President Obama.

While this is happening, Obama has used his local and national speaking opportunities to make fluff speeches with no true substance, to throw blame away from himself, which is where it belongs.

Four years ago, he promised hope and change, but has only delivered pandering and blame. The time has come to send President Obama back to community organizing before our economy slumps to its worse debt in history.

Remember, he himself stated he doesn’t deserve to be re-elected if he fails. The numbers and facts are not lying. President Obama has failed the people of this country.

Of course the left continues to play dirty and lie
Something we have always suspected - the Dems can't win discussing policy so they sling personal attacks, sleazy innuendo and character assassination on their opposition. The Daily Caller affirms this tactic with another one of those "hot mike" moments where a Liberal Super PAC manager spills the beans...

"According to an audio recording obtained by The Daily Caller, Matthew “Mudcat” Arnold, the national campaign manager of the liberal CREDO super PAC, told a gathering of supporters in Aurora, Colo., on Sept. 8 that they’ve realized “policy did not move voters.”

He used Iowa Republican Rep. Steve King as an example.

“When we said that Steve King … is pro-life and believes in cutting Social Security and voted for the Ryan budget, no one cared,” Arnold said. “When we said Steve King’s a racist, Steve King believes that immigrants ought to be put in electric fences, people moved.”

“When you talk about the substance of a man’s character, people respond,” Arnold continued. “Believe it or not, that is not something politicians knew.”

Thanks Mudcat -- We ALL know now.

I hate to tell you but Obama is leading - a good lead right now so you best put away your white hood and just resign yourself to the reality that we will have 4 more years of Pres. Obama. Gov. Romney this week lied AGAIN to the American people about what happened in the middle east. He has really gone over to the dark side but anyone who is a corporate raider resides in the dark side anyway. Romney will be wiped out in the debates because he may be a schemer but he knows he cannot stand up to the truth and he is simply not as smart as Obama. His scheme worked at Bain, but it's not working in this campaign. And since his campaign is a disaster, guess he surrounds himself with pretty dumb counselors too. Paul Ryan is a real problem too - a liar who looks really uncomfortable lying. His political career is over and so is Romney's and maybe the end of the REpublican Party altogether!

Jennifer, don't be blind, deaf or dumb. They all lie. Don't make Obama out to be a saint. He lies, he schemes, he manipulates just like every politician. Obama leading? Depends which poll you look at, but don't bother because they'll keep on changing. I know I can't financially afford another 4 years of this. I'm not impressed with the president's handling of the current situation either. Either way, there's going to be a lot of angry people in November, but I really want to give someone else a shot at fixing this mess. Fact is, as difficult as it is to admit, Obama's not the guy. We can't all be good at everything. He's not a good president.

@Ric, reread my post. I was referencing Obama. I know you're excited, but slow down a little.

It is a reasonable conclusion that, if we had a president that didn't cower to the Middle East, we would be watching reruns instead of protests. Like it or not, Obama doesn't matter to these radicals. They don't fear him, they certainly don't respect him. They are doing it because they can. Power is intensly craved but cannot be handled by everyone that craves it.

No, I do not want to bomb the hell out of the Middle East. We need to return to a place of respect and attempt to return peace to the region. Radicals have made their intentions clear. If we are unwilling to accept what we are dealing with, we will not see peace, but further bloodshed. We will see more power struggles throughout the area.

While I am not Mormon, I know a few. Of those I know, they are good, law abiding people. I do not agree with their religion, but I respect their love of God and humanity.

I am not privy to any specific "lies" Mr. Romney has told. I'm quite certain that if a big one existed, we'd have heard about it.

Take a deep breath and think about the big picture. What happens to a country in so much debt they cannot afford to defend, feed, or house their citizens? The rich in this country cannot sustain all of us. They can afford to leave, the rest of us cannot. Keep taxing them, they'll go. The debt cannot continue to rise.

I am sure glad the terrorists feared Dubya & Cheney. Otherwise 9/11 would have happened on their watch. Oops, Dubya & Cheney were running the country that day. Sure weren’t any Middle Eastern cowering that day. Cannot blame Obama for that although you will. You even blame Obama for rainy days and sour milk, don't you?

I agree that the Middle East needs to return to a place of respect but why do we have to do it? We are not the world's police or Santa Claus. Let’s do what we do best which is the art of making money. To hell with Israel, Iran, Afghanistan, Syria, Lebanon, Saudi Arabia, Yemen, Egypt and a bunch more. Our only concern should be buying a barrel of oil as cheaply as we can. Let the Middle Easterners nuke themselves back to the stone age.
I know Mormonism, I considered converting. The whole religion is a BIG LIE. It throws out the bible and creates a super race of Jews that became American Indians after they mysteriously flew to North America one lazy afternoon. And don't get me started about Joseph Smith's mysterious and wondrous gold plates that only he could see. LOL! Reminds of the time a high school buddy tripped on acid and only he could see the little green aliens. Mormonism is nothing more than a BIG TRIP. GROOVY MAN!

No, Ric, I wasn't backtracking. Your inability to comprehend the written word is clear. No, I will not back down on my statement that all politicians lie because they do. Every time they make a campaign speech and say they'll do something they know they have no intention on doing. Do you want me to list Obama's lies? Yes, I do anticipate Romney will say things to get elected.

You cannot blame 9/11 solely on Bush. The plans were in operation when Clinton was president. Let's acknowledge a little shared responsibility here. Libya and Egypt are Obama's babies. Let's see where this goes.

I agree with you on the oil front. We do have plenty of oil here in the US. I say, drill and let's be self sufficient. Let them eat their oil. Better yet, let's make wheat exports the same price as oil. I disagree on Israel. Breathing the same oxygen is no reason for extinction. (Look what happened in WW2. All you need is one power-hungry @sshole who thinks he can attack and take any country he chooses by force. With an economically weak US, we are ripe for the taking. If you think someone won't try it, you seriously underestimate them.) Peace in the Mid East is in our best interest. Apologies and cowering clearly doesn't work.

Stop thinking political parties and start thinking about the preservation of this country. I am glad Hillary is there and certainly wish she was elected instead of Obama.

It's called political satire. And it's as valid a way of communicating as any. Even leaving the Kenya issue aside, it's hard to understand how a nation could elect an enormous question mark to be its president. Was it really so wise to elect someone whose background was so little known to the highest office in the land, and then wait for history to reveal who the heck he was and what he stood for? But anyone with open eyes sees that his goal was to take America down more than a few notches in terms of world leadership. And this is desirable why? So, China or Iran or Russia or rabid Islamists could fill the vacuum? This is nuts.

Obama did NOT apologize - that is just Romney's desperate attempt to get the hawks on his side since Obama has been so tough on terror in his administration. Since Romney is catering to the extreme right, who knows what he really thinks or if he thinks at all. He is bought and paid for by the Koch Brothers so he will be beholding to them. Yes, the system is bad but the since the Republicans are trying to take away the reproductive rights of women in this country, and they will not address the real issues (has Romney ever answered a question concerning taxes, medicare, healthcare?) He wants to repel Obamacare and has offered nothing in its place. You cannot go with a guy like this and this party. He has moved so far right that it is not feasible for him to win. Of course in OC he is ahead. Republicans rule in OC - it is an OLD crew and the young ones are resentful of the minorities and full of anger. OC is not the US - it is backwoods Kentucky at its worse. And why go back to the policies that got us into this depression/recession. 8 years of Bush and the spending Republicans (including Paul Ryan who voted for every bit of spending that Bush wanted.) No - you are kidding yourselves if you think Romney is a man of the people. He is a man of the super rich and could care less if Stinger gets a job.

America's credit rating was downgraded again yesterday due to the trillions of debt under Obama. What has Obama done to get Stinger a job? NOTHING! He's given him foodstamps instead. He hasn't met with his "jobs council" in MONTHS!

The Koch Brothers? What about Soros? Just a nice old Hungarian man who loves the citizens of the US? Insulting citizens from Kentucky shows your true colors. Like it or not, they are fellow Americans. Did you check out the results of this Patch poll? If it were not feasible for him to win, your precious polls would not be so close.

Who knows what Romney really thinks? We now have a better understanding of what Obama really thinks, and it's not concern over your birth control. You want Romneys taxes, I want Obama's college records.

You're like a little kid who wants ice cream for dinner and you'll vote for whomever will give it to you. Scary.

Obama's been apologizing since he took office! THEY will not address the REAL issues? LOL! Obama is throwing this crap out there to avoid talking about the REAL issues! How about a budget?

Dems lost the congressional majority for a reason. Better wake up and realize that there is far more at stake than free birth control for women in this country.

Why don't you right wingers come up with something that cannot be easily turned around on you? Your satire is damn lame. Of course you might want to try the truth for a change. Your distortions are as equally lame.
PS: It sure looks like the right wing of the Republican Party will get their rear ends whipped in November. Once the bible thumpers are driven out, the party will be courting moderates again. YEAH! I will be singing:
Happy days are here again,
The skies above are clear again
So, let us sing a song of cheer again,

@Ric, I have yet to see you articulate any logical reasoning behind electing Obama president for a second term being a positive thing for this country. Your tired rhetoric is predicatable. You wouldn't know the truth if it came up and bit you. I am certainly not "right wing", I am, instead, a logical thinker. O's poicies have not done anything positive for the economy. It has not stimulated job growth. It has divided this country. The Middle East is on fire. Yea, great leader (sarcasm).

As far as breaking into song after Nov 6, don't go getting all comfy with all your thoughts that O will win another term. I've a feeling you may be seriously disappointed. Americans don't want a celebrity, they want a leader, they NEED a leader. Obama has proven he isn't the one. Those "happy days" you refer to, exactly who's presidency are you referring to? It certainly isn't this one's.

What do the 2008 election stats have to do with my post, Spooner? I said we elected a mysterious figure to the presidency. There is a lot we don't know about the guy, and a lot that people have come to dislike about him ... election results notwithstanding. If 53% of the popular voter and 365 electoral voters like the results, then I guess we'll have four more years.

He is certainly creating a vacuum in world leadership that will be filled by unsavory regimes. It's better to promote liberty and freedom than to allow repression to spread unchallenged.

Ric,
I took your advice and asked a couple of republicans; they, they called me names and hurt my feelings.
One said I was a pathetic loser and needed to get off my a@$ and take charge of my own destiny. The other told me to get a life and stop thinking the world owes me something just because I’m in it.
They’re bad people Ric, BAD, BAD, BAD.
Then I went to my therapist to talk about it, but she wouldn’t see me because I’m not on my mother’s health plan anymore. To top it all off while typing this I just got a text that my smart phone plan is due to expire in a few days.
Ric, what do I do now; I don’t think I can make it to November?

We are missing the big picture, i think. No one man or party will save us from ourselves. We are supposedly a country split down the middle and collapsing because of it. We only find faults with others and not looking for solutions. One side wants darwin theory of survival of fittest and other may want to go a bit more ant evolution in a good sort of way. This is the vote we have before us. Will we humble ourselves for the good of us all? Or fight each other till the bitter end? Wars are great for reminding us how "great" and what "winners" we truly are. It also reminds us that we are too big for our britches. We should be taking test on subjects on line to be qualified to have a vote on all major subjects. Facebook like voting. Be we aren't grown up or educated enough for that. Are we in this together or is it every man for himself? That is the question at hand.

If I learned anything from the hundreds of comments I just read, it is the alarming amount of disinformation and the more daunting amount of people who believe the disinformation (BS) spewing forth in the form of sound bites, usually taken out of context, by the mean spirited mouthpieces on talk radio. The truth can always be found if you are willing to spend the time and do the OBJECTIVE research. In my experience, the elected officials all do whatever the hell they want, based on who is kicking back the most money. Even so, the government is so large that nothing changes right away. It takes years, and dedication, to accomplish anything. The people know what needs to be done, but if the mouthpieces keep us fighting among ourselves, it will be the business as usual. Phony baloney business.

I found this poem. Think it's any good?
Poetic parable of the red Amazonian ants
I wonder if many know of this crafty red species
That makes another black one clean up its feces
Bring them food and tend to their babies
They don’t even let them have ladies
The reds don’t work much except to give the orders
The blacks toil in the reds kingdom trapped in their borders
Never knowing they’ve been deceived
I wonder if they’d be relieved
To find out the truth of their plight
How when they were in the egg their was a fight
The reds took their army of mostly black drones
To raid another kingdom’s thrones
The peaceful blacks did fight back
But I think the reds’ venom do they lack
The black kingdom fell and their babies were taken
Only to be slaves the reds keep making
Maybe God wants us all
To keep learning how to make other kingdoms fall
But I think we’ve taught ourselves this quite well
For it does make our egos swell
To know our kingdom is the best
Because it gives no other kingdoms rest
To keep up their defenses they must
No other kingdom can they trust
I wonder if God’s gavel fell
Would all those reds ants go to hell?

Target is most likely to be Iran. While Obama believes in diplomacy, Romney will launch an attack. This will drive gas prices up and also hurt the economy in further. You're worried about gas prices? They've more than doubled since Obama's taken office. Today, Iran boasted they want oil prices at $150 a barrel. If you think that'll hurt our economy, just wait until Iran nukes Israel, our military budgets have been slashed to nothing, our deficit is through the roof with no money to defend ourselves. Wow! and when did the war with Iran start? I've been watching a bit of football, so maybe I missed it? and While Iran is part of OPEC, they do not have a ruling vote. and just so you know since you seem to read and consume a lot of news... What the Iranian Oil Minister was saying was that prices are too low, and countries in Europe and the US should stop blaming their financial problems on the price of oil and those same countries should address their own debt first. and since you probably already read this, since you read so much news... The Saudis have said they are working on actually increasing production to make up for the shut down in the gulf, which should reduce a barrel to around $100... It is presently $108... and there are a lot of hawks out there scaring us about Iran. They don't have a bomb, they won't get one anytime soon, and it is important that we not over reacted and have another Iraq war. It is important that we work with all of our allies to track Iran. Keep our heads, and stop over reacting and nation building....

Then again she said Obama wasn't standing with our allies in Czechoslovakia... Which is funny considering the Romney camp is still chasing the Reds in Russia as our #1 threat. These people at stuck in the 80's. and BTW... Czechoslovakia hasn't been a country since 1992.

Libya and Egypt/Yemen/Sudan/Tunisia are different things... You do realize that.

With all due respect, Romney is applying for the job of President. It is absolutely in his purview to comment on international affairs. Just as Obama "interviewed" for the job of President 4 years ago all the while touting his ability to handle economic affairs, drive down the deficit, close Gitmo and improve the standing of the US internationally. If Obama didn't live up to his credentials, then his contract ought not be renewed.

The Embassy of the United States in Cairo condemns the continuing efforts by misguided individuals to hurt the religious feelings of Muslims – as we condemn efforts to offend believers of all religions. Today, the 11th anniversary of the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks on the United States, Americans are honoring our patriots and those who serve our nation as the fitting response to the enemies of democracy. Respect for religious beliefs is a cornerstone of American democracy. We firmly reject the actions by those who abuse the universal right of free speech to hurt the religious beliefs of others.

lol Bush did not ask how people felt about going into the Middle East, when he was told (before going into Iraq) that Hussein had no connection to 9/11 or Bin Laden's whereabouts he told Powell quote on quote "to find one". In fact, that was kind of a big story when it came out too I'm surprised you missed it with your head so far up your ass.

Don't get me wrong, every president has their faults. But don't think for a second that Bush didn't plan on going to the Middle East from day one. AND if you want to callout a WW3, it did not start in Libya, it started on 9/11, and the first 8 years we attacked the wrong people. Bush had 8 years of tracking the guy down in two wrong countries, so yeah Obama can get the credit for that in my book.

Pakistan and Iran are the threats, we went into Afghanistan and Iraq for the wrong reasons, but also to do some good, and we did that, but we made them our unwanted step children for the next 20 years as well. People bitch about Obama caring for the poor and people don't want to 'take care of others' and why should my taxes go to this or that person, at least they are Americans. The Repubs got us spending our money and lives on several other countries doing the exact same thing now on non-Americans lol oh... and they outsource our jobs.

A lot of right-wingers try to brush off the comparison of Romney to Bush II, but in brushing Bush off, they confirm that Bush II was a failure. I would feel better about Romney if he would man up and say where he differs from Bush II -Cheney. But he does because he does not differ.
Romney does and Bush II did target the right-wing religious bible thumpers to get elected. Well, we lost both Bush II wars. Some estimates claim over a million is dead in Iraq. And by fighting those useless wars we are trillions in debt.
I am not fond of Obama but I support him because he is the more moderate (I did not say moderate). I sure as hell do not want a reincarnation of Bush II in the White House - even if the reincarnation is a Mormon. We got to stop warring across the globe.

On false information (we had nukes and connections to Bin Laden). Hell, Bush had a bigger connection to Bin Laden (well, his family) than Hussein did lol.

And your rash identification of me is pretty far off, I barely believe in the idea of unions, I think they are mostly corrupt and I have never worked for one, I work in the legal field as a matter of fact and actually pay a higher tax than most Americans do and you know what... I do not mind.

Obama is not a Muslim, you wouldn't know a Muslim or an Arab for that matter if it hit you in the face. Have you ever been over to the Middle East? Or outside of America in general aside from cruises or vacations down south? And just because you watch Fox News 100% does not mean you watch tv and I don't lol.

PS Where was Bin Laden? Pakistan lol that's right, aka not a country Bush got us 'in'.

I'm not getting into this anymore with you either lol we can argue on the intelligence of our leaders back and forth and get no where, but to actually think Obama is a Muslim, I have to draw the line to any intellectual debate there. I half expect you're going to tell me creationism has a place in schools next. I'm sorry man, have a good day.

NiHoMa I agree with you. By all indications, Mitt will start yet another war in the Middle East and have no way to fund it. He is a carbon copy of GB. "Support Our Troops" by giving tax cuts. How do we as Americans support our troops by cutting taxes? Where is our commitment? History told us about the whole country rationing items for the war effort of WW2. Since 1990, the companies like Raytheon, aircraft manufacturers, and weapons manufacturers are doing well. Meanwhile, all-volunteer military sends our poor and disadvantaged, the only kids who join, off to battle. Only a hand full of Politicians went to fight, and even less of their children, unlike Vietnam. And mgh1115, I also agree with you. DJGigs is trying to re-write history.

John Jay

11:36 am on Monday, September 17, 2012

"Robert McKenna, MIKE's" comment about only "poor and disadvantaged" fight in battle is crock.

Here's the real answer with the data: "Fact: Military recruits mirror the US population and are solidly middle class. A recent report shows that more recruits come from middle income families, with far fewer drawn from poorer families (Figure 2). Youth from upper income families are represented at almost exactly their fair share." (Source: http://www.defense.gov/news/Dec2005/d20051213mythfact.pdf)

By the way, here more information the proves the crock by "Robert McKenna, MIKE":

"Continuing the pattern from Desert Storm, African Americans remain under-represented among casualties in Operation Iraqi Freedom. Through November 5, 2005, African Americans represented about 17 percent of the force, yet accounted for 11 percent of deaths. On the other hand, whites accounted for 67 percent of the force, and suffered 74 percent of deaths. The corresponding numbers for Hispanics were 9 and 11 percent.

"This pattern results from occupational choices young people make. For example, African American youth choose to serve in support occupations such as the health care field, which tend to feature valuable job training over bonuses or education incentives. These are the choices young volunteers make."

So an apology is in order. As much as it pains me to say it ;-) John Jay is right -- the entire thing is from the DoD report.

John Jay you are certainly entitled to be on the side of an all-volunteer military. However, I devoted one sentence to that, while pointing at our country's lack of support for the troops. As a Vietnam vet I know we had a more representative cross-section of Americans to serve, due to the draft. The country did not support us then but at least the country was up-front about it. Today we say, "Thank you for your service." In reality we should say, "Thank you for your service because while you were gone, I got your job, a tax cut, and except on Memorial day or remembering 9/11. I don't think about you people who bought into the hype about serving the Country, The GI Bill, VA Benefits, Hosp coverage, and other under funded programs that you will spend indefinite amounts of time fighting for, because the government employees, don't care about you the vet. Mallaby Marlowe, your right some poor people didn't join, but it is the only way out for many poor and minority kids. Kids who want to do better than their parents or make their parents proud. Those youths don't have choices like middle America. Private High Schools, and Harvard, are not looking for those youths. And if you ever served, you would know there is just as much honor being an Army cook as Ranger, or being a Ship's mechanic, as a SEAL. It is about BOOTS ON THE GROUND. Race has nothing to do with a well-oiled fighting machine, as is our military.

John I would love to see your point of view and make it my own. However, I believe you are quoting biased facts. I believe you alluded to soldier's jobs as some being better or more important than others. I have possibly misread your comment, but I read it again and I still think you show a bias. The fact too remains that, in MY OPINION, the draft was a good thing. I joined, and I was in Vietnam when they still had the draft. I do not doubt you are a patriot, and you served your country. I do think you are argumentative and way over the top too serious. I believe too in the 2nd amendment, but that has nothing to do with the best choice for election is President Obama.

"A citizen, whose nephew attends Brevard Community College, reports that he brought home the below bookmark pledging to vote for President Obama. The bookmark and pledge was handed out during a mathematics class taught by Assistant Professor Sharon Sweet. This occurred “while the student was in class at the request of his College Algebra teacher, Sharon Sweet, from Brevard Community College in [Melbourne] Florida.”

John Jay

Robert McKenna, MIKE -- I suggest you go back and re-read the report that I DIRECTLY QUOTED from the DoD -- that means it was the words of the DoD, not mine.

On top of that, I provided the link to the entire report. Once again, not my words, it was the DoD.

Regarding your statement that I am "argumentative" -- when 100% false information is presented by the Leftists here, I negate it with the facts with no apology. When I use the facts, the conga line of liberals here come out dancing and chant "racist". It's laughable because they can't negate anything I wrote here.

As far as the 2nd Amendment goes -- Obama has come out since day 1 that he is anti-2nd Amendment. I can give you multiple quotes and deeds by Obama that proves this beyond a reasonable doubt. A great example was is the highly illegal "Fast and Furious" program that blew up in his face.

Should I do that, again, to embarass the Leftists here?

Obama, the so-called "constitutional scholar" never wrote two verifiable Constitutional Law articles in his natural life -- let alone showed in words and deeds his support for the Constitutional right to keep and bear arms.

John Jay

Your repeated personal attacks against me, Spooner, prove that you are an Obama supporter and will lie to make a point. You lied about me making racist comments and you lied when you challenged the validity of my timelines.

Just because you claimed to have read a document doesn't mean you understand it. That's been painfully obvious, for example, when I provided a chronology of women's voting rights in America and the never-ending support of the Republican Party to secure those rights.

Rather than admit your ignorance of the historical fact, you make some illogical claim that the work of the GOP of today cannot take pride in its accomplishments of 1864 through 1965 when it comes to voting rights for women and African Americans.

If anything, the GOP should be taken to task for losing the "propaganda war" the Democrats waged against them -- the propaganda war the Democrats waged after the Civil Rights Act of 1965 was brilliant! In true Orwellian fashion, the racist roots of the Democrats disappeared down the memory hole!

Johnson, aided and abetted by his master propagandist, Jack Valenti, duped an entire nation into thinking the Democrats were behind women and Blacks all the time -- the reality was 180 degrees opposite, of course.

Brilliant...diabolical, but brilliant.

Wow what a relief. We have been wondering - who is the REAL Mitt Romney and now with these tapes released of him speaking at a fund raiser ($50,000 per person) he finally let us all know exactly who he is and what he believes. He holds - in complete contempt, approximately half of the American people. He thinks we are all losers - at least half of the American people are losers in his opinion. And he only cares about (but I am sure not much) the other people who he apparently thinks are non-losers. Well, last I heard, the President of the US is the President of ALL of the people - even us Democrat losers who see ourselves as "victims" and just want handouts from the government. Mr. Romney - go home and count your billions. You really do not want this job and you are certainly not qualified. Your ambition overrides your common sense.

So let's see:

- You're playing the race card now.
- Your next step is to engage in "class warfare" statements such as I'm "greedy" or that I want to "let children starve" or one of the many other canned responses that are spwed from a DNC newsletter.

The problem with following talking points Spooner, is that you will be outed for being unable to produce original ideas that are supported with factual data -- and I have funny feeling you are following such a script.

This is why you lose, and will continue to lose any attempt to negate my words and facts. I'm working from my own in-depth knowledge of history, law, and ability to do rock-solid research.

Look race is a stupid argument... And I think it was me who said earlier in this ridiculous thread, that it was really about environment then it is race. If you call someone undereducated with little home support, a welfare baby because they take a free lunch.... or the working poor who receive food stamps some sort of leech of our tax dollars.... well more of those persons are white then minority. In fact most come from the so called red states that will give Romney full electoral votes come November. so its not racist.... it is just ignorant. and speaking of Romney, his leaked comments started off as truth that '47 48 49 ( almost said 50) a big number' will vote for Obama regardless. But his reasoning is questionable... That number has more to do with Grover then it does Barack or even George. Mitt just keeps playing cards that don't prove that he understands the problem. and it is a real shame that the GOP nominated such a empty suit, if a true conservative has won the nomination, win or lose -the dialogue would have been elevated. I'd love a Ron Paul /Barack Obama debate. cause even if i disagree with Paul on most issues, he speaks from his heart.

District of Columbia Et al. v. Heller:

"Held: 1. The Second Amendment protects an individual right to possess a
firearm unconnected with service in a militia, and to use that arm for
traditionally lawful purposes, such as self-defense within the home.

"(a) The Amendment’s prefatory clause announces a purpose, but
does not limit or expand the scope of the second part, the operative

connotes an individual right to keep and bear arms."

One of my favorite American legal scholars was St. George Tucker. I think he said it best -- Obama probably doesn't even know who Tucker was...let alone understand the history and intent of the right to arms.

"This may be considered as the true palladium of liberty .... The right of self defence is the first law of nature: in most governments it has been the study of rulers to confine this right within the narrowest limits possible. Wherever standing armies are kept up, and the right of the people to keep and bear arms is, under any colour or pretext whatsoever, prohibited, liberty, if not already annihilated, is on the brink of destruction. In England, the people have been disarmed, generally, under the specious pretext of preserving the game: a never failing lure to bring over the landed aristocracy to support any measure, under that mask, though calculated for very different purposes. True it is, their bill of rights seems at first view to counteract this policy: but the right of bearing arms is confined to protestants, and the words suitable to their condition and degree, have been interpreted to authorize the prohibition of keeping a gun or other engine for the destruction of game, to any farmer, or inferior tradesman, or other person not qualified to kill game. So that not one man in five hundred can keep a gun in his house without being subject to a penalty."

my lies? look you can call me a plebe or paddy or whatever else you think demeans me, but lies? The only time i lie is on the couch.

I'm sure you have a database of everyone's 'lies' on some spreadsheet or whatever, but I think you called me on was IRS agents being armed.. and I have said that those armed officers aren't there to collect your unpaid Obamacare penalties, but rather for IRS agents staking out criminals like the mob.

You can twist that all you like, but THAT is not a lie. it is the truth. No armed IRS agent is going to show up at your for for $95 bucks to 1% of your income or latter $695 to 2%. Its a tea party BS started by the Gov of Maine whatever his name is.

and you can't even say you don't post on Patch from work...

Most of the 47% that don't pay taxes are all Republican states. Uh, oh Romney just shot himself in the foot, again.

Tonto source please..I call bull pucky...
Romney is mostly correct in this statement, both from a political analysis view and from a societal view.
Romney correctly states that 47% of Americans pay no federal income tax, a figure publicized by the Tax Policy Center last year. However, he did not mention that many of those 47%, did pay into Social Security and Medicare and in some states are responsible for some payment of state income taxes. Those FICA taxes are usually not paid by the highest income groups who earn their money from investment or real estate income.

Romney's statement is the kind of red meat his base has been dying to hear for months. The mainstream media hype around the story will only further serve to motivate the Republican base. I wouldn't be surprised if Romney's fundraising numbers increase in the next 48 hours.
BTW, Romney wasn't even stumping he was talking to donors. I'd like to hear what's going down at Beyonce and Jayz's 2million dollar champagne diner tonite. Think there will be any hidden cameras there? I hope so.

Food for thought...
Why is the Bernanke announcing QE3? Could it be a failed domestic policy?
Why is the Middle East on fire? Could it be a failed foreign policy?
These are serious issues that need to be discussed. QE3 alone, you realize this has to be paid back,,,with interest!

John- it was nice to give us your litany of the Heller case. . .but what exactly is your point. . .other than to impress who here? Like I said you have your opinion of Heller, and I side with Justice Stevens. Quoting Scalia: ...Petitioners and today’s dissenting Justices believe that it protects only the right to possess and carry a firearm in connection with militia service. See Brief for Petitioners 11–12; post, at 1 (Stevens, J., dissenting)...

...also: The preamble of the clause implies that the Second Amendment (which creates a right “to keep and bear arms”) is not about personal self-defense, but about forbidding the federal government to disarm state militias. Of cause Scalia dismisses this point along with telling us that the Second amendment was written for the voters to understand. . .I guess we're stilling having trouble there?

Now John you got to bear with me...it seems that Justice Scalia doesn't share your views regarding(hope I got the spelling right on that one) unorganized militias. Here's his response is like when Clinton said: it depends on what your definition of what "is" is...continued...

Spooner

11:13 pm on Tuesday, September 18, 2012

Now you's out there hold onto your hats reading this...from Scalia:..we believe that petitioners identify the wrong thing, namely, the organized militia. Unlike armies and navies, which Congress is given the power to create (“to raise … Armies”; “to provide … a Navy,” Art. I, §8, cls. 12–13), the militia is assumed by Article I already to be in existence. Congress is given the power to “provide for calling forth the militia,” §8, cl. 15; and the power not to create, but to “organiz[e]” it—and not to organize “a” militia, which is what one would expect if the militia were to be a federal creation, but to organize “the” militia, connoting a body already in existence... more of Scalia's. . .it depends on what "is" is...continued...

Spooner

11:17 pm on Tuesday, September 18, 2012

Now for some more confusing double talk from Scalia...For Congress retains plenary authority to organize the militia, which must include the authority to say who will belong to the organized force.17 That is why the first Militia Act’s requirement that only whites enroll caused States to amend their militia laws to exclude free blacks. See Siegel, The Federal Government’s Power to Enact Color-Conscious Laws, 92 Nw. U. L. Rev. 477, 521–525 (1998). Thus, if petitioners are correct, the Second Amendment protects citizens’ right to use a gun in an organization from which Congress has plenary authority to exclude them. It guarantees a select militia of the sort the Stuart kings found useful, but not the people’s militia that was the concern of the founding generation...??

John- just one more thing...

...maybe you might want to correct your dictionary, with all this spelling correctness you want to preach too?

John Jay

Spooner, your "militia" claims are a joke too. The history and the intent of the right to arms is based on an individual right, not a collective one. Period. The end.

Do you think I am wrong?

Put your money where your mouth is, Spooner.

Produce a 100% authentic and verifiable quote that CLEARLY STATES that the Second Amendment was meant to apply SOLELY to a well-regulated militia from any one of the following:

- One of the Founding Fathers (Ex. Thomas Jefferson, John Jay, John Adams; etc.)
- Their contemporaries (Ex. St. George Tucker, Tenche Coxe, William Rawle; etc.
- A 19th-century Supreme Court decision (Ex. U.S. v. Cruikshank (1876), Presser v. People of Illinois (1886), etc.).

Now run along to class!

Spooner, if you want to be ignorant and use unacceptable English and use "irregardless", be my guest. It's your choice to be ignorant, not mine.

It is a non-standard " word. This isn't just my opinion, it is based on the authoritive sources:

* Merriam-Webster doesn't accept it: http://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/irregardless

* The Oxford English Dictionary (OED) rejects it.

* The AP Style Manual (AKA the journalist's "Bible", also rejects it).

* The American Heritage considers it "non-standard":
(see: http://thebettereditor.wordpress.com/2011/12/02/irregardless-of-your-distaste-for-it/)

* The Chicago Manual of Style rejects it: http://www.chicagomanualofstyle.org/CMS_FAQ/Usage/Usage109.html

Any English or American Journalism professor worth their diploma would tell you the same.

So please, continue your journey of English ingorance and we'll all sit back and laugh at you. Wikipedia is a nice place for background information, but I think the most reputable sources on the English language in the world trumps your flaccid claim.

Here is the link to the English Department at Brookdale Community College. You may be able to get into a Spring Semester class: http://www.brookdalecc.edu/pages/291.asp

Well... you got me me. Yep, you clearly demonstrated that armed iRS agents are going to raid people's homes who don't pay a penalty. Ohh wait no you didn't... you proved my point. you even quoted it... "criminals like the mob". Maybe you don't get it, but saying LIKE THE MOB. I'm trying to help you associate a situation, but by using a qualifier like LIKE I am not limiting the use of CRIMINALS to just the mob,.
and this is what you do all day on the tax payer dime.... try an make people who disagree with you look silly, when you aren't even discussing the real point, it is all about YOU. which suits your politics.
and you want us to believe you are a public servant.

John Jay

8:06 am on Wednesday, September 19, 2012

Patrick...your have become a caricature of the Left here. What makes your words pathetic is that you have been repeadtedly proven wrong with historical, legal, and government documentation -- yet you continue to claim your false words are true.

Instead of accepting your that you suffer from an acute lack of knowledge of U.S. history, U.S. Constitution -- and, of course, the CI division of the IRS, you try to keep your falsehoods alive using semantical life support.

It doesn't work. You failed.

As for your latest false accusation that I claimed to be a "public servant," -- you lied again. So please, enough lies. Run along.

Ohh but John Jay/ Winston/ Steve from Kingston you amuse me, like a circus clown that has performed the same stale act for decades... And sadly knows little else.

You have always had this inflated sense of your own opinion... Have waxed on about facts while edififing yourself wirh conspiracy and recently you have had a drop in the old self confidence by having to having to reference your famous fairytale friends.
Don't ever change, the world needs you just as you are.

John Jay

More semantics Patrick.

"Government capcity" does not equal "public servant". You lied, for example, when you claimed I use the citizens' money to refute your personal attacks and lies here.

What I do and who I know is my own business -- and your making false accusations that I am engaging in theft is a sure sign of your desperation and inability to counter what I write with facts and logic.

So run along now...go spew a stream of false claims and personal attacks somewhere else.

Patrick

Sir you put these things out there not me... You know Christie, Harvard law grads etc and if you want to be purposefully obtuse about your capacity in government, so be it... One would take from your words that you draw a tax payer funded check for said work. But really how thin is that skin of yours... You put it out there, expect to be called on it. That is how it works I do so enjoy your misplaced hubris . And actually I'll decide where I post on the Internet, not you. And desperate I am not, I just find you amusing.
