Award-Winning Posters on Exhibit at Scotch Plains Library
The posters celebrate the Statue of Liberty’s 125th anniversary. Reception is 7:00 p.m. on July 9.
This July and August, the Scotch Plains Public Library is hosting an exhibition of prize-winning posters designed by New Jersey City University art students and alumni commemorating the 125th anniversary of the Statue of Liberty.
The exhibit features the competition's winning poster, designed by Filipé Barros, as well as the posters selected to be juried in a competition held by the Statue of Liberty National Monument and Ellis Island to select designs for commemorative materials for the Statue's 125th anniversary.
The theme of the competition was “Honor History – Envision the Future.”
The exhibit is open to the public during regular library hours.
We have timed this exhibit of Ellis Island and Statue of Liberty art work to coincide with Independence Day.
As a formal kickoff of the exhibit and to celebrate the library's American Dream week, the library will be hosting a reception for the artists on Monday evening, July 9 at 7:00 pm.
A very exciting development for us is that two of the artists, Sidra Hassan and Ray Greaves, will be holding art workshops for our teens starting the very next day! Our community's young artists will learn something from these pros about taking a concept like freedom and communicating it visually on a poster. Our teen artists will have a chance to exhibit their work this summer and to participate in an exciting poster contest this fall. More details on the latter will be announced at the reception.
