Blotter: FW Police Arrest SP Resident for DWI Following Early-Morning Car Crash
Police activity in Fanwood from Dec. 3-21.
An early-morning, two-car collision Sunday, Dec. 12, led to an arrest for driving while intoxicated. At 1:51 a.m., Fanwood police officers responded to a crash at South Avenue and Terrill Road, according to Detective Eugene Chin. The officers interviewed both parties involved and determined that one of the vehicles was struck after it had stopped for a red light.
While speaking with one of the drivers – Kyle Mihansky, 20, of Scotch Plains – the officers detected the strong odor of alcohol coming from his breath, Chin reported. The officers asked Mihansky to perform a field sobriety test, which he failed, and subsequently placed him under arrest. They transported him to police headquarters, where he was processed, issued a summons for careless driving and drunk driving, and subsequently released to a responsible party. The charges are pending a court date.
Two days later, in an unrelated incident, a resident of the 40-block of LaGrande Avenue reported being the witness of a theft. At 1:50 p.m., she told police that she had observed a thinly-built black male take from her neighbor's porch a package that had been delivered by UPS. The witness and others stated that the man wore a black coat and black knit cap, and traveled in a black SUV-type vehicle. After stealing the package, the witnesses stated, the man drove east on LaGrande Avenue, then north on Staggard Place. The contents of the package were valued at $40.

Friday, Dec. 3:
- Police arrested Lydia Jolicoeur, 32, of Elizabeth, for an outstanding warrant issued by the Hillside court. At 8:05 a.m., officers stopped Jolicoeur on Pleasant Avenue for a motor vehicle violation and discovered the warrant. They transported her to police headquarters, where she was processed, posted bail and was released.
- Police arrested Jerry Rodriguez, 33, of Plainfield, for an outstanding warrant issued by the Westfield court. At 5:17 p.m., officers stopped Rodriguez in the 30-block of South Avenue for a motor vehicle violation and discovered the warrant. They transported him to police headquarters, where he was processed, posted bail and was released.
Saturday, Dec. 4:
- Police arrested Phillip Hay, 31, of Ewing, for an outstanding warrant issued by the Kenilworth court. At 10:41 a.m., officers stopped Hay on Terrill Road for a motor vehicle violation and discovered the warrant. They transported him to police headquarters, where he was processed, posted bail and was released.
Between Saturday, Dec. 4 and Sunday, Dec. 5:
- A resident of the 20-block of MacLennan Place reported being a victim of criminal mischief. Sometime between 9 a.m. Saturday and 7 p.m. Sunday, an unknown suspect or suspects defaced concrete the resident had poured on his sidewalk.
Sunday, Dec. 5:
- A business in the 100-block of South Avenue reported being a victim of shoplifting. At 5:40 p.m., an employee reported that a black male, about 6 feet tall, in his late-50s, and wearing a skullcap, walked out of the store with about $50-worth of merchandise. Officers responding to the scene checked the area, but were unable to locate the suspect.
Tuesday, Dec. 7:
- Police arrested Pamela Dela-Cruz, 38, of Rahway, for an outstanding warrant issued by the Highland Park court. At 9:30 a.m., officers stopped Dela-Cruz at Martine Avenue and Watson Road for a motor vehicle violation and discovered the warrant. They transported her to police headquarters, where she was processed, posted bail and was released.
Wednesday, Dec. 8:
- Police arrested Wilfred Villanueva, 21, of Plainfield, for an outstanding warrant issued by the Scotch Plains court. At 8:58 a.m., officer stopped Villanueva in the 100-block of South Avenue for a motor vehicle violation and discovered the warrant. They transported him to police headquarters, where he was processed, posted bail and was released.
- Police arrested Belkis Ramirez, 41, of Clifton, for an outstanding warrant issued by the Hanover court. At 12:46 p.m., officers stopped Ramirez at Terrill Road and North Avenue for a motor vehicle violation and discovered the warrant. They transported her to police headquarters, where she was processed, posted bail and released.
Friday, Dec. 10:
- A resident of the 30-block of Beech Avenue reported being a victim of criminal mischief. At 1:56 a.m., the resident told police that he was awakened by a noise, and that when he went to investigate, he found that a bedroom window had been broken by a rock. No one was injured and the bedroom was unoccupied. Officers responding to the scene checked the area, but were unable to locate the suspect or suspects.
- Police arrested Jensson Cabrera, 25, of Linden, for an outstanding warrant issued by the Fanwood court. At 2:10 p.m., officers stopped Cabrera at Watson Road and Martine Avenue for a motor vehicle violation and discovered the warrant. They transported him to police headquarters, where he was processed, posted bail and was released.
Monday, Dec. 13:
- Police arrested Angel Rivera, 25, for an outstanding warrant issued by the Cranford court, and issued a subsequent charge for violating a restraining order. At 1:40 p.m., officers stopped Rivera at Midway Avenue and Tillotson Road for a motor vehicle violation and discovered the warrant. They transported Rivera to police headquarters and, while he was being processed, discovered he was also in violation of a restraining order. He was transported to Union County Jail pending a court appearance.
Wednesday, Dec. 15:
- A business in the 200-block of South Avenue reported being a victim of theft. At 12:08 p.m., one of the business' employees told police that a Hispanic male, driving a silver Mercedes with tinted windows, had received $20-woth of gasoline, then fled before paying. The vehicle headed west on South Avenue.
Friday, Dec. 17:
- Police arrested Penny Cadlett, 49, of Plainfield, for theft. At 10:54 a.m., a business in the 100-block of South Avenue reported that a shoplifting had just occurred. When officers arrived at the scene, they located the suspet – Cadlett – in a parking lot on the east side of the business, and placed her under arrest. They transported her to police headquarters, where she was processed and released pending a court date.
Saturday, Dec. 18:
- A church on Martine Avenue reported that an unknown suspect removed about $150-worth of food from the church's kitchen. The incident, which is believed to have occurred between 11:30 a.m. and 3:30 p.m., remains under investigation.
Monday, Dec. 20:
- Police arrested Gregory Eldridge, 49, of South Plainfield, for an outstanding warrant issued by the New Brunswick Court. At 10:09 a.m., officers stopped Eldridge at Terrill Road and Cottage Way for a motor vehicle violation and discovered the warrant. They transported him to police headquarters, where he was processed and released after posting bail.
- Police arrested Kimani Hamilton, 36, of Plainfield, for an outstanding warrant issued by the Watchung court. At 3 p.m., officers stopped Hamilton at Terrill Road and East Second Street for a motor vehicle violation and discovered the warrant. They transported him to police headquarters, where he was processed and released after posting bail.
- A resident of the 20-block of Chetwood Terrace reported being a victim of theft. At 6:28 p.m., he told police that an unknown suspect or suspects stole a Santa Claus lawn ornament from his front yard. The ornament was valued at about $100.
Tuesday, Dec. 21:
- A business in the 200-block of South Avenue reported being a victim of theft. At 9:05 a.m., one of the business' employees told police that an Asian male received $48.16 of gasoline and attempted to pay by credit card. When the card was denied and the employee asked the man to pay with cash, the man fled the scene. The incident remains under investigation.
- Police arrested Andre Littlejohn, 41, of Roselle, for an outstanding warrant issued by the Absecon court. At 12:50 p.m., officers stopped Littlejohn in the 200-block of South Avenue for a motor vehicle violation and discovered the warrant. They transported him to police headquarters, where he was processed and released after posting bail.
Between Tuesday, Dec. 21 and Thursday, Dec. 23:
- An unknown suspect or suspects stole a Nativity Scene ornament from the Christmas display located on the North Avenue side of the Fanwood Train Station. The incident is believed to have taken place between midnight Tuesday and 3 p.m. Thursday.
