Blotter: Two Reports of Burglary in Scotch Plains

Police activity from Aug. 16 through Aug. 21.

Scotch Plains police are investigating two reports of burglary that the department received last week.

On Monday, Aug. 16, a resident of Sycamore Avenue reported that an unknown suspect or suspects went into her house sometime within the last week while she was on vacation and removed numerous pieces of jewelry. The total value of the stolen property is about $1,800. There was no sign of forced entry.

Five days later, a resident of Roberts Lane reported being a victim of burglary. He stated that sometime overnight, an unknown suspect or suspects entered his residence. Once inside, the suspect or suspects removed about $15,000 in jewelry. There was no sign of forced entry.

Tuesday, Aug. 17:

A resident of Victor Street reported being a victim of harassment. She stated that she has been receiving numerous messages from a former friend on her Facebook account. She said she has also been receiving letters from the former friend.

Police arrested Elisa Cruz, 33, of Plainfield, for forgery and theft. Officers determined that Cruz cashed a forged check from a Scotch Plains business, and placed her under arrest. She was transported to police headquarters, where she was processed. She was unable to post her bail of $22,500, and she was transferred to Union County Jail.

Thursday, Aug. 19:

The manager of a South Avenue gas station reported being a victim of theft. He stated that an unknown suspect took $36 worth of gasoline, then left the station without paying.

Friday, Aug. 20:

Police arrested Walter Williams, 35, of Hamilton, for a $1,100 outstanding warrant issued by the Scotch Plains court. Officers stopped Williams for a motor vehicle violation on Park Avenue and discovered the warrant. He was transported to police headquarters, where he was processed and released.

Police arrested Makesha Holmes, 23, of Plainfield, for an $89 outstanding warrant issued by the Scotch Plains court. Officers stopped Holmes for a motor vehicle violation on Park Avenue and discovered the warrant. She was transported to police headquarters, where she was processed and released.

Police arrested Jada Williams, 29, of Bound Brook, for a $1,368 outstanding warrant issued by the Plainfield court. Officers stopped Williams for a motor vehicle violation on Hunter Avenue and discovered the warrant. She was transported to police headquarters, where she was processed and released.

Saturday, Aug. 21:

Police arrested Jean Land, 47, of Piscataway, for hindering apprehension or prosecution. Land gave officers a false name and false driver's license, after she was stopped for a motor vehicle violation on Hunter Avenue. Officers transported her to police headquarters, where she was processed and released after posting $1,000 bail.
