Breaking News: FPD Investigating Midway Robbery

Woman assaulted after exiting a Westbound New Jersey Transit bus.

The Fanwood Police Department is investigating a robbery that occurred at 7:30 p.m. Thursday on Midway Avenue, near the intersection of Farley Avenue and Midway Avenue. The victim exited a Westbound New Jersey Transit Bus and crossed over to the south side of the intersection. As she was walking, she heard someone run up behind her and he knocked to the ground. The man, whom she identified as tall, slim, African-American with short hair and wearing a dark coat,   stole the victim’s pocketbook and ran to a dark SUV or van that sped off northbound on Farley Avenue.

Anyone with information regarding this incident please contact Detective Eugene Chin at the Fanwood Police Department (908) 322-5000 ext 119.

This follows an alert sent out by the Scotch Plains police yesterday of a student being robbed on Thursday walking home from school in the area of Westfield Avenue and Cook Avenue with two people getting out of a car and grabbing the kid. This car was described as an black Nissan Altima.

Thanks for the intersection, the letter I just received in e-mail from Dr. Hayes didn't state where this occurred.

Actor? What is meant by that term? How about perpetrator? I take the train everyday and people have to be aware when they walk. I hope they catch this piece of garbage.

I think actor is the police term for perpertrator. Regardless, you were able to figure it out. Have a clue please.

The description of this person is very vague and I don't think that part should have been stated. This could be anyone...

Yeah that's pretty smart. The police should have stated they are looking for a person that fits a vague description. If you observed anyone near the scene of the crime who fits a vague description please contact the police. Have a clue please.

I think all families should have received this notice. Its certainly is pertinent to everyone who lives in this town. Couldn't the police department have communicated this news in some way? How about utilizing Patch to disseminate information, and even include the letter from the Superintendent with an article? For those families who do not have children in this particular school, they should still be informed as to what happened. All of our young folk are in danger here until they catch these guys. I hope the police will walk the streets of our downtown area.....I know its cold out, but you gotta get out of your cars and be visible.

I called Chief Trigo and asked if there was more of a description as I thought it was vague as well. He stated that the information posted is exactly what the victim told the officer, i guess some information is better then no information. the police are hoping someone will have seen the incident and possibly have more of description to add to the information the victim had. also, he said actor is law enforcement terminolgy.

Please note that I received the information about the robbery on Midway in an email alert from the Fanwood police -- I signed up to receive such alerts this winter. I also received emails from my childrens' schools regarding the incident involving the Park Middle School student.
