Fanwood Driver Crashes into 15-year-old Bike Rider

A 15-year-old male was injured on Sunday when he was struck by a Fanwood resident driving on South Martine Avenue.

A 15-year-old Linden male suffered a broken rib and a bruised lung when he was struck by a Fanwood resident driving a Nissan sedan at 8:29 p.m. on Sunday near the intersection of South Martine and Trenton Avenue.

Chief Richard Trigo stated that the minor was traveling by bike in the south-bound lane of South Martine when he “for no apparent reason” crossed into the north-bound lane and was struck by the 52-year-old Fanwood resident’s vehicle. Speed was not a factor in the accident, Trigo stated.

The Fanwood Rescue Squad responded to the scene and transported the minor to UMDNJ hospital in Newark where he is said to have been released, although that has yet to be confirmed by police. The biker was not wearing a helmet at the time of the crash.
