Get By With a Little Help from a Beatles Tribute Band Tonight
'Strawberry Fields' takes the stage in Oak Ridge Park in Clark tonight at 7:30.
Someone once said, there are two kinds of people in life: Elvis people, and Beatles people.
For the latter, today's free concert by Strawberry Fields, a Beatles cover band featuring former members of the Broadway hit musical "Beatlemania," may pique your interest. For the former, prepare to be dragged to a concert by your most Beatles-crazed friend.
The tribute band will start at 7:30 p.m. at Oak Ridge Park in Clark as part of the Union County Summer Arts Festival concert series and play from throughout the Beatles catalogue, including the "White Album," "Abbey Road," and "Let it Be." They'll even don all the psychedelic costumes featured on the famous "Sergeant Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band" album cover while they play tracks from it.
"Bring the entire family for an evening of Beatles music in Echo Lake Park," Union County Freeholder Chairman Daniel P. Sullivan said in a press release. "Pack a picnic basket, bring lawn chairs or blankets to sit on, and enjoy the sounds of the Fab Four under the stars."
The night continues a great series of summer concerts as part of the Union County Summer Arts Festival, which continues to the end of August. Next week's concert will feature Doctor K's Motown Review, a Motown tribute band that takes the listener back to the origins of funk and soul. The following week features The Rat Pack, a Frank Sinatra cover band, who will take the night back to another New York City. What a world, indeed.
Elvis people who started worrying that your Beatles friend may soon be calling, there is hope yet for you: rain. In the event of rain, contact the Department of Parks about delays and cancellations either by phone at 908-558-4079 after 3 p.m., or visit through its website at www.ucnj.org/parks/summerarts.html.
