Good, and when they do find her she should be arrested and charged with creating a false public alarm. Just look at some of her tweets, snotty stuck up, rude, teenager who thinks the world is all about her and needs a reality check.

No Joe. Instead of thinking that - wonder what is in the mind of a young 16 year old, that may feel so desperate and lost to leave home, potentially allude to a kidnapping, why did she reach a "breaking point". Have a little compassion. It's not easy being young in today's world.

First of all, I'd like to point out that the police have never, ever been wrong before. They always know exactly what happened, and therefore, we should stop looking for this girl to make sure she's safe and continue the lynch mobs that have formed online calling for her to be killed and kidnapped, beaten, "taught a lesson", etc.

I mean, threatening a troubled girl (which you would have to be to fake something like this) always has great outcomes and never leads to suicide or self harm.

I hope they are right, otherwise we, not only the parents should get all the police department fired. Poor kid, if she has done all of this its in name of attention. My home is opened to her anytime. Society rewarding people for pulling idiotic stunts like this is just absurd too me. Instead of you people right away inferring she must have a 'problem', why don't you think of the adverse? Who's to say she isn't just doing this for attention? To gain some twitter followers and compassion from her community and peers? What makes you people right and Joe D wrong? In which case this is a crime. Concentrating police, resources, and money in order too try to find a girl who had claimed to have been kidnapped is not something that should be taken lightly. Why reward her for potentially doing a bad deed such as this??

Seem like every other teenage girls tweets that I know. Instead of judging a girl you know NOTHING about besides what she previously tweeted, just feel bad shes feeling this low with her life & hope she comes home safe.

No, we don't know the full story... yet we are allowed to comment, and we all do, from our own perspectives. This is the media. If the contents of her past tweets are any indication, I would be one of those she made fun of... I do pray that she is found, but I don't believe she should be just patted on the back like nothing ever happened. Whatever reason she felt she had draw attention to herself, should be addressed and she should be made to face those who so ardently were looking for her and face what she has put her family and her community through.

No one here is being rude except the people throwing insults around. The fact is, resources are wasted when someone runs away and causes a panic like this and they should not get off free. Also, think of the poor kid she accused of being a stalker. He now has a lot of things to deal with because of the poor way this was handled. I get it, it is hard being a teen, but causing widespread panic and bringing others down is not the way to go about it. I hope they find her soon and address the problems she's having, but thinking she should get off without punishment is naive.

My heart goes out to this girls parents and my hat is off to melissa for being a level headed, honest teenager. How naive are some of you, thinking this prank is ok? "For whatever her reason" isn't good enough. This appears to be a well planned, thought out execution to get what she wants without regard for all the parties involved. Would it be ok to call in a bomb threat in a theater, cause a panic and use resources to get attention or pull off an alternative motive? You bet they'd hunt that person down and there would be prosecution of some kind. My problem is that this is 2012. Teens have resources to work out their problems. Help groups. Peer groups. Support groups. These are even anonymous if online. Chat groups. Then why do you condone this girls actions? Too many teens have a parent given sense of entitlement, no consequences. I'm a teen myself and nothing NOTHING would lead me to do something as crazy as this. Wether she wants attention or who the hell knows why she ran away she should get some type of punishment. How can you put your parents and friends through this? Especially your parents. I feel bad for them. Stop tweeting for this girl, she will return home when she wants to. There could be many reasons why she ran away, maybe she's pregnant or did something so bad she doesn't want to get in trouble and figured when she came home everything would be ok. I have zero sympathy for her.

In my experience, it's the well off whitebread teenage girls who have the most problems. Yes, her tweets are abhorrent, so are those of 30% of young adults. (And some not so young.)
The bigger problem I see here, is the poor young boy, obviously with a crush, that's been dragged into this whole thing.
When she's found safe, I would expect every person that pointed a finger to apologise to him.

Kara, go to a local police station or hospital and ask for help. There will be plenty of people and agencies to help you resolve your personal concerns after your come back.

The parents better teach her a lesson tough! Its not the law that should have the first say. It starts at the home.

Maybe it should be seen as a cry for help....maybe she was being abused or something and she found a time that she could make a statement and run.....if you've never been in that situation, than you wouldn't understand. This might have been the first time she was able to be alone and flee....stop being so hard on her, her anger might be a reaction of the way she was being treated at home or by friends.....abuse comes in all different ways and we all react differently to it. SOMETHING made her do this......don't be so judgemental until you know for sure....

I hope this girl makes it home. From the picture taken by the camera at the train station she is prepared to stay away for awhile. She had NO idea what she is in for if she's planning to hit the streets. I wonder if she went to NYC? Bad move if she did. The pimps are waiting for little girls like her. I pray she makes it home and I pray for her family.

I just read on NJ.com, that as I suspected she did indeed by a train ticket to NYC. She could be in big trouble.

I wonder how far this story would have gone is this girl was pudgy and had crooked teeth? Or if she was a minority, this "News Flash" would not have even made it to the sideline news...

So apparently they have found her. NJ State Police picked her up walking along the side of the NJ Turnpike by Exit 1 yesterday afternoon and she's been reunited w/her family. I am happy for her family and her friends. And a HUGE thanks should go out to the law enforcement officers, all of them, who assisted in the search for her.
