Mara's Café & Bakery to Open First Franchise Location in Fanwood

Mara's Café & Bakery has been recognized regionally as the best coffeehouse, and has also won numerous awards for its desserts, sandwiches and more.

The following information was provided by Mara’s Café & Bakery.

Mara’s Café & Bakery, a casual, family-friendly café, awarded its first franchise to Marci and Mark Semel of Fanwood, NJ to begin expansion beyond Morris County. The franchise is expected to open in April 2013 across the street from the Fanwood train station at 250 South Avenue.

Mara’s Café & Bakery has been recognized regionally and in New Jersey as the Best Coffeehouse, and has won numerous awards for its cheesecake, gelato, cupcakes, cannoli, sandwiches and more. The franchise will serve savory desserts along with fresh roasted coffee and full breakfast, lunch and dinner meals in a relaxing atmosphere. Indoor and patio seating are planned.

“We are pleased to have Marci on our team,” said Ian Magley, President and Chief Executive Officer of Mara’s Franchise Systems, LLC. “Her enthusiasm and focus on providing a great customer experience makes her a perfect franchisee to help us expand our franchise network and to “Make Every Day Delicious” in Fanwood, NJ.”

“I am thrilled to become a part of the Mara’s family,” said Marci Semel.  “To me, the Mara’s brand represents award-winning products to serve in my hometown to bring everyone together in a comfortable environment.  I enjoy being a customer of Mara’s Café & Bakery, and am excited to bring Mara’s to my home community.  Our location is an ideal place for commuters, local business employees and families to gather, or just get their coffee and meals on the go. I am especially looking forward to bringing the freshest coffee to town with Mara’s on-site coffee roaster.”

Mara’s was established in 1984 when Mara and Glenn Magley created a line of desserts and coffee products.  In 2004, Mara’s Café & Bakery in Denville was opened and the product lines expanded to include soups, sandwiches, salads, quiches and handcrafted gelato. The menu has grown to include seasonal specials and freshly roasted coffee beans. All meals are made fresh to order for dine-in, pick-up and catering.

“For over a quarter century, our motto has been to offer a customer experience we would expect for ourselves. We look forward to expanding our customer base in the Fanwood market,” said Mara Magley, Co-Founder and Vice President, Franchisee Support.

The franchise program, developed with the help of the Chicago based iFranchise Group and the Philadelphia based law firm of Fisher Zucker, LLC, will start with Fanwood and be followed by additional openings in New York and New Jersey over the next year. “Mara’s Café & Bakery could easily expand nationally in a few years,” according to Ian. “Our goal is to ensure the success of each franchisee.  Therefore, we plan to take a conservative approach to expansion.”

“We believe we have the right products, services, and philosophy to sustain our expansion goals,” concludes Ian Magley.  “As we grow through the addition of more franchises, we expect that our market position will only become stronger."
