Multiple Vehicles Burglarized in Fanwood

The Fanwood Police Department urges anyone who might have witnessed entries into vehicles to call the department.

The following information was provided by the Fanwood Police Department.

Between the hours of 6:40 pm on 12/28/12 and 8:00 am on 12/29/2012, five vehicles were entered by an unknown person(s) in the northwest quadrant of town.

At one location, the opened garage was also entered.

All vehicles were unlocked at the time and various items were removed.

Anyone who might have observed any suspicious vehicle or person(s) during this time is asked to contact the Fanwood Police Department, 908-322-5000.

Similar incidents occurred in surrounding towns during this period.

It would be helpful to get more info, such as which streets this occurred on, and which surrounding communities had similar incidents (was it SP?).

Hi Kevin, this was all that was provided from the department. However, previous to these few incidents, if you check past police blotters from both Scotch Plains and Fanwood thefts to unlocked vehicles were happening to cars in driveways and to cars parked in front of the owner's homes on a variety of streets throughout both towns. Here they only specified the northwest quadrant, I'm not sure why that was all that was provided.

Nicole...reporting means not to just print a press release...go ask the FW police where the crimes occurred; if they won't tell you, file a freedom-of-information request. The FW Police are required to release what is public information though 'they' may not want to. SP info on the break-ins was printed in the SP-FW Times; again, nothing from FW in that publication. My guess is that the FW dept members were out generating town income via questionable traffic stops - for which FW Police are well known. While you are at it, find out what 2012 auto/home break-ins were solved.

Hi FormerFanwoodian, Thanks for the information on reporting. I have already reached to Fanwood PD about the break-in locations, as soon as I get the information I will post it. In all other instances of vehicle break-ins both Fanwood and SP have provided the streets. I'll let you know.

My only 2 comments:
Why are people leaving their doors unlocked? Hello people, wake up. Cats now have remotes to lock and unlock.
Also, people should think twice about programming garage remotes factory installed in cars. Once the car is open they have access to your home. You should carry a small transmitter with you, or keep one in hidden location in car.

Ignore my phone's auto correct of "cats“ I meant cars. I suppose most of you know that, though there is always a heckler waiting to correct me.
