It's not a monkey...It's Zippy! He's so cute! I love it! People who view a 1950's stuff monkey toy from the Howdy Doody show that kids loved as racist might want to look at themselves, and how rediculous they sound. This president has divided this country like no other president in our history, to say a stuffed animal is prejudice achieves the goal. Than ask yourself why would any president want to intentionally divide this country. Before this president we were united and hard work was celebrated. (My groceries, and gas were half as well) Now we are suppose to think success is a bad thing and can't say anything unless we agree with this president or it's prejudice, or you might find the IRS at your door, or defending yourself in a courtroom. Ask yourself where the recent unjustified prejudice accusaions originated. Zippy would never lie! I strongly agree with the message. I'm not prejudice, but to say anyone who disagrees is prejudice is dangerous. If Don Ric wants to say something "for now" they have the right to do that. If you disagree you can do that too, for now they shouldn't have to remove it. 4 years from now it's up to you.

I can not speak to this individuals motivation in choosing a monkey to display his message, yet I do question given our shared history, his judgement- especially as a former councilman and trained law enforcement professional where it would be expected that he be highly trained in scouting out not so obvious messages as it relates to gang symbols and things of that nature. The first amendment allows for the freedom of speech no matter how malicious, vile, and disagreeable that speech may be. In this particular case though, I believe it might have been a temporary lapse in judgement versus a genuine racist message for his choosing of the monkey costume. The public might disagree with this view, believing that it was indeed racially motivated and to that I say simply, do not give his small business, any business. Show your discontent with your pockets! It's not logical to assume that a person who has dedicated his life to public service, be branded in one single incident, a racist but thats the world we live in today. In closing, do you remember Harvard Law Professor Gates accusation several years ago that his arrest was racially motivated and how the media and pubic were quick to crucify the officer and the Boston Police Department for making that arrest- only to learn that that Boston Cop was one of the leading diversity/race relation criminal justice educators in the country? How does this compare you might wonder? See the general in the particular!

visitor, I do recall the Gates thing. What was troubleing to me is how the president quickly resonded to this arrest and the recent Flordia arrest: He said the Boston officer behaved "stupidly", what I think we know separate and apart from this incident is that there's a long history in this country of African-Americans and Latinos being stopped by law enforcement disproportionately. This is just my oppinion, but as a lawyer I would think he might wait to learn the facts before jumping to conclusions. If the goal is to unite, I would definately remain quiet until all facts are known if I had to say anything. What was the objective? The president has tramendous influence, it seems irresponsible.

Of course it was racist and the owner being a former Police Officer should have every ticket or arrest reviewed for his entire career when it involved a minority. People don't change their behavior. Given the comments on the article Cedar Grove ought to be in Alabama. Decent people should put the man out of business. He wants to get involved in politics that is his business but an overtly racist public display ought to carry a price from the public.

Are you racists just as dumb as you sound or are you just ignorant of the history of Black-Monkey racism which has been a horrible part of American history for centurys including the justification of Slavery and Jim Crow Laws. Here is just a small bit of recent history. That this man was a Police Officer and an elected official is disturbing.
"In fact, several public incidents have linked the proliferation of these images to elected officials in the Republican Party. One specific episode involving anti-Black monkey imagery happened in April 2011. A Tea activist and Orange County Republican Party official Marilyn Davenport made headlines when it was revealed that she had sent out an email with the President depicted as the offspring of chimpanzees. The text of the email read, "Now you know why no birth certificate." She claimed to have not thought about the "historic implications" of the image, despite the fact that she had earlier defended a fellow Orange County Republican for having sent out an image of the White House lawn as a watermelon patch with the message, "No Easter egg hunt this year."

Since Romney uses Bain Capital as his number one area of expertise, it is reasonable to look at the after effects of people's lives when Bain has been involved. The man blames Bain, hence Romney for his inability to have the insurance his wife needed. That is a fact but to equate this racist ex-elected official's thinking this comparison of the President to a monkey is appropriate is probably more a view of mainstream Cedar Grove. It is racist pure and simple. You will also remember that this add was paid for by a superpac not associated with the campaign. Romney used that exact same excuse for his vicious attacks on Newt Gringrich during the primaries.
