Roadwork on Hetfield Avenue Begins Monday

The road will be closed from South Avenue to West Broad Street for about three weeks from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Hetfield Avenue in Scotch Plains, NJ will be closed from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. starting Monday for up to three weeks.

According to Scotch Plains Assistant Engineer Joe Timko, crews will install concrete handicap ramps at the roadside corners, and mill, pave, and linestripe the roadway.

The road will be closed from South Avenue to West Broad Street with limited access for residents of Hetfield Avenue, Shawnee Path, and Fieldcrest Drive during the day.

On the days of milling and paving, which should take place a week and a half into the project, Timko said there will be no traffic allowed.

Police will be on site during the milling and paving process and have the ability to ticket drivers who disregard the detour.

Does anyone know if they're putting in sidewalks on the south side of Hetfield? If not, why did they put in ramps to nowhere? Seems like a waste if there's no sidewalk.
