Scotch Plains-Fanwood Year in Review: The Year in Photos

MLK Day Service in Photos

At least 450 residents gathered to fill 600 volunteer spots as part of  the 2011 Martin Luther King Day of Service. The event is directed by Michelle Abraham who introduced the Day of Service to Scotch Plains and Fanwood in 2010. MLK Day of Services is a nationwide event that celebrates the life of Dr. King through volunteerism. The event will take place again this year.

Fanwood 5K

On Sunday, October 23, 400 runners participated in the second annual Fanwood five mile race.

Fannywood Day and Scotch Plains Day

From pie- eating contests to musical numbers, these two annual celebrations delight residents year after year. This year’s celebrations took place on October 2 in the business districts of each town.

Scotch Plains Holiday Celebration

On Sunday December 4, local families celebrated the beginning of the Holiday Season in downtown Scotch Plains. As Santa arrived aboard a fire engine, families experienced a petting zoo, an ice sculpture and even shook hands with Darth Vader.

Scotch Plains and Fanwood’s Finest Celebrate National Night Out

On August 3, families had the opportunity to mingle with Scotch Plains and Fanwood’s finest during each of the town’s National Night Out celebration.

April 18 - Youth Baseball Rings in the New Season

The Scotch Plains-Fanwood Youth Baseball Association held its season-opening ceremonies at Booth Field in Scotch Plains on Saturday, April 17. Local athletes were also honored.

St. Patrick’s Celebration in Fanwood Raises Money for Youth Sports

On Saturday, March 17, Fanwood’s Saint Patrick’s Day Celebration, organized in part by Flannery’s Pub drew hundreds, raising money for youth sports.

Brunner Hosts Guest Readers for Read Across America Day

Local officials gathered at Brunner Elementary School to celebrate Read Across America. Participants incude: Scotch Plains Mayor Nancy Malool, Trip Whitehouse, PTA member Catherine Glastal, Fanwood Mayor Colleen Mahr, Fanwood Councilman Russell Huegel,  Brunner PTA 3rd Vice President: Jutta DeVizio, Park Middle School Assistant Principal Michael Kneller, Fanwood Councilman Robert Manduca, SP Councilman Bo Vastine, Fanwood Councilwoman Joan Wheeler, SP Councilman Michael "Mickey" Marcus, and SP Councilwoman Mary DePaola.

14th Annual Jazz Band Festival

On February 23 SPFHS acclaimed jazz band, the Moonglowers participated in this event held at the High School. Young talent from across the state traveled to Scotch Plains to participate in the festival.  

McGinn’s Super Science Saturday

On February 28, students demonstrated science projects focused on going green.
