SPFHS Wide Receiver Matthew Jegede to Play College Ball at Bucknell

Matthew Jegede officially signed his letter of intent to play football at Bucknell on Wednesday morning.

senior football player Matthew Jegede made his commitment to Bucknell official when he signed his national letter of intent on Wednesday, February 1 in front of his coaches, friends and family. The standout wide receiver will play the same position at Bucknell.

Jegede finished the 2011 season with 21 catches for 408 yards and 5 touchdowns for nearly 20 yards per reception. Jegede carried the ball one time on the season that resulted in a 60-yard touchdown.

An official visit on the weekend of the 21st assured Jegede that Bucknell was the right place for him.

"I went up there and loved the place, loved the players," said Jegede.

Although preseason is still seven months away, Jegede has already dove into the team's offensive playbook and their off-season workout program. Jegede will attempt to let his presence be felt early in his football career, another reason that he ultimately decided on Bucknell.

"I liked that they don't really care what grade you are in," said Jegede when asked about the prospects of seeing the field early in his career. " If you're a freshman who can play, you are going to see the field."

The WR hopes the transition is benefitted by the comfort he felt around Bucknell's head coach Joe Sugar and his staff.

"Coach Sugar reminds me of coach Ciccotelli," said Jegede. "They both have the same values and both are familar with each other."

Along with Bucknell, both Holy Cross and New Haven were very intereted in Jegede's services. In the end, the decision was easy.

"In the end, I just couldn't imagine myself anywhere else."
