Scotch Plains Police department announced Monday that three Union County men face three charges each in the Thanksgiving Day armed robbery of the Westfield Avenue Quick Chek.

Chief Brian Mahoney announced that Nestor DelGadillo, 19, of Melrose Pl. in Plainfield, Gustavo Alasdiaz, 23, of Emerson Ave. in Plainfield and Kevin Veliz Age. 18 of Clinton Ave. in South Plainfield were arrested last week and charged with robbery, unlawful possession of a weapon and possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose. 

Chief Brian Mahoney echoed the original report stating that the Scotch Plains Police Department received a 911 call from the Quick Chek manager at approximately 12:20 a.m. on November 25. She stated that two individuals entered the store, produced a handgun, demanded cash, and fled on foot with an undetermined amount of funds.

After the robbery, Patch spoke with the two employees who were present during the robbery. Visibly shaken, the employee who stood behind the register during the robbery refused to speak with the press. The other employee present during the robbery, who called herself only Belkie, described the scene.

"It’s not an experience I would recommend to anyone," she stated. "Two guys came in with a gun and demanded money. There were no cars in the parking lot. I never thought that this could happen in Scotch Plains," she added. 

Police officials have identified the two men who fled the Quick Chek as DelGadillo and Veliz, adding that Alasdiaz drove the getaway car. The three became suspects when they allegedly committed similar robberies in Springfield, Edison and Piscataway.

All are being held in the Union County jail in lieu of $300,000 bail. The defendants are set to appear in Union County Superior Court next week.
