Residents of Union County who are 60 years of age or older are invited to participate and exhibit an original work of art – completed within the last three years – in the annual Union County Senior Citizens Art Exhibit. The Carriage House Poetry Series is in its fifteenth year at the Patricia Kuran Arts Center, an historic Gothic Revival structure that was once a 19th century carriage house, hence the name of the series.

The Carriage House Poetry Series invites the public to celebrate National Poetry Month in Fanwood at a free reading by the distinguished poet Vievee Francis on Tuesday, April 16. The featured reading will start at 8:00 p.m. in the Kuran Arts Center on Watson Road, off North Martine Avenue, adjacent to Fanwood Borough Hall (GPS use 75 N. Martine Avenue). An open mic reading will follow the featured performance. Vievee Francis is a Texas-born, Michigan poet. Faith players will be presenting an original play titled Down the Rabbit Hole. This play is based on the famous Lewis Carroll classic Alice in Wonderland, and was written by Tori Clemens with original musical soundtrack by Scotch Plains resident Neal Acito. Tori Clemens founded the Faith players back in 2005 and for the past few years the theatre group has been on hiatus. On May 26 the annual Memorial Weekend Concert will take place at the Fanwood train station.
The following information was provided by the Memorial Day Parade Committee. The Scotch Plains Memorial Day Parade Committee has announced that the annual Memorial Weekend Concert will be held on Sunday May 26, 2013 at the Fanwood train station (North side lawn) from 7:00PM to 8:30 PM. The Westfield Community Band, led by Dr. Thomas Connors, Director will play patriotic melodies, traditional marches and other popular works. Memorial comments delivered by veterans are also included in the program. The Westfield band has been providing musical entertainment for community events since 1912. The following information was provided by the Fanwood Performance Series. The Fanwood Arts Council and Mayor Colleen Mahr are pleased to announce the new season of the Fanwood Performing Arts Series. The new season will begin on April 13, 2013, at 7:00 p.m. at the Patricia M. Kuran Cultural Center (The historic carriage house). The spring series will also include performances on May 11, and June 8. The April performance will feature Michaela McClain and Ethan Murphy. Michaela McClain is a singer/songwriter whose folky/soul sound is reminiscent of Alicia Keys, Amy Winehouse and James Taylor.
