Christ Church Summit, 561 Springfield Avenue, will be hosting Canticles for Life concert this evening at 7 pm.

Canticles Chairperson Ginny Johnston, of Maplewood, will be conducting the Triad Vocal Ensemble, which will feature a mix of repertoire including works by Brahms, Rene Clausen and Mark Miller, the Minister of Music at Christ Church.  This mixed adult choir will also perform a work composed by Ginny and set to a text by Scott Griffith, of Paramus.   Scott was the founding conductor of the Triad Vocal Ensemble.  The concerts will also feature Gospel singers Cassondra Kellam and Julian Wamble, accompanied by Mark Miller as well as Broadway singers Melody Lieberman and Frank Todisco, accompanied by Rich Lovallo.   And back again, the award-winning Newark Boys Chorus, with their diverse repertoire of African folk songs, classical pieces, spirituals, show tunes, pop and jazz.  Additionally, panels from the AIDS Memorial Quilt will be on display and a reception will follow each performance.

The Canticles concerts will benefit the following New Jersey charities that are concerned with the quality of life for persons living with HIV/AIDS and the remembrance of lives lost: New Jersey AIDS Services based in Morristown, the NAMES Project of Northern NJ, which supports the AIDS Memorial Quilt; and the AIDS Resource Foundation for Children in Newark.  The “Canticles for Life” AIDS Benefit Concerts began in the spring of 1997 and have been held almost annually since then. Over $98,000 has been raised for the New Jersey AIDS charities, and the concerts have featured over two dozen pieces by New Jersey composers.

Tickets are $15 for general admission, $12 for students and seniors, $25 for a contributor ticket and $60 for a Program Sponsor (which includes 2 tickets), and are available online at www.CanticlesforLife.org or at the door at each concert.
