Scotch Plains, NJ – The Scotch Plains-Fanwood High School Marching Band hosts the 13th Annual Marching Band Festival on Saturday, September 17th, 4:55 p.m. at the Scotch Plains-Fanwood High School Varsity Field, 667 Westfield Rd., Scotch Plains.

- Fair Lawn High School
- Roxbury High School
- West Orange High School
- Bayonne High School
- Weehawken High School
- South Plainfield High School

- Immaculata High School
- John P. Stevens High School
- Scotch Plains-Fanwood High School
Approximately 1000 student musicians will perform and compete in the September 17th festival. They will vie for trophies for Best Music, Best Percussion, Best Visual, Best Color Guard and Best Overall Effect
“Our festival is a showcase for the many different styles of marching band music and performance,” says Durand Thomas, Marching Band Director, Scotch Plains-Fanwood High School. “It’s a fun evening of entertainment for the community at a great price.”
Festival admission including a program book is $8 for adults, $5 for seniors and students. Food and drinks will be available to buy.
All participating marching bands are members of the United States Scholastic Band Association, Northeast Region (HYPERLINK "http://www.ussba.org" www.ussba.org). The USSBA was founded in 1988 with 100 marching bands. USSBA now has 1,200 member bands throughout the U.S. Each region has its own set of shows, regional competitions and championships.
The 2011 Scotch Plains – Fanwood Marching Band is comprised of over 140 students. It is among the top 10 high-school marching bands in the state, having won:
- Top Percussion Section, NJ State Finals, 4 times
- Best Color Guard, 2010 Northern States Championship
- Regional rankings in music, marching, overall effect and overall placement.
The SPF 2011 Marching Band show is entitled SPF Moving Forward: “Desire, Drive, Determination”, selections from “Ride” by Samuel Hazo, “12 Seconds to the Moon” by Robert Smith, “Noisy Wheels of Joy” by Eric Whitacre, and “To Tame the Perilous Skies” by David Holsinger.

More About Scotch Plains-Fanwood High School
Scotch Plains-Fanwood High School, with an enrollment of about 1,500 students, is the only public high school in the township. It offers a comprehensive program that serves the needs, aptitudes and interests of its diverse student body. Extensive required and elective courses are available in English, mathematics, science, social studies, world languages, physical education and health, instructional technologies and business, art, vocal and instrumental music, industrial technology education, and family and consumer sciences. There are 16 Advanced Placement courses. In addition, there are work/study programs and vocational/technical training opportunities. Special facilities include computer labs, reading labs, subject resource centers, college and career resource center, and media center with audio/video/TV production and broadcasting capabilities. The school offers an outstanding program of extracurricular activities in which several student groups and teams regularly receive state and national recognition. The principal is David Heisey.
