The International Film Festival continues at the Springfield Free Public Library on Thursday, July 12, 2012. The library will screen LAILA'S BIRTHDAY at 1 pm and 7 pm. "At eight o'clock, it's Laila's birthday, okay?" Palestinian judge turned taxi driver Abu's wife reminds her husband. On his young daughter's birthday, Abu faces a nerve-wracking shift in a Ramallah yellow cab, armed only with an ex-jurist's misplaced pride, a father's loyalty, and a sticker reminding passengers that smoking and carrying AK-17s are prohibited. In Arabic with English subtitles. 71 minutes and not rated. Future screenings in this series include Queen to Play, Korkoro, The Artist and Nora's Will.
Funding for the film program has been made possible in part by the NJ State Council on the Arts, Department of State, a partner agency of the National Endowment for the Arts, through a grant administered by the Union County Office of Cultural and Heritage Affairs and by the Friends of the Springfield Free Public Library.
Admission is free and refreshments are served. Assisted listening devices are available upon request. The Springfield Free Public Library is located at 66 Mountain Avenue, Springfield, NJ 07081. 973-376-4930. www.sfplnj.org. All are welcome.
