Fanwood 5K, Center for Hope Fashion Show, Bone Art Exhibit at Vienna 60

What's happening today in Scotch Plains and Fanwood.

Fanwood 5K and fun run: A family fun run will kick off the morning festivities at 9:00 a.m. Following that, the 5K will start at 9:30 a.m. Awards will be presented for overall 1st, 2nd & 3rd male & female, age group winners and all participants in the Family Fun Run will receive a medal. Following the race will be refreshments, a live DJ, and various vendor booths and activities. 

Center for Hope fashion show: At 11 a.m., the Center for Hope Hospice and Palliative Care Auxiliary is having its 16th Annual Fashion Show and Luncheon at L'Affiare in Mountainside. There will be a Fashion Show arranged by Lord & Taylor, more than 100 prize baskets, a Grand Raffle and a luncheon. Tickets are $65 and can be obtained by calling Dot Chard at 732-521-5362. All proceeds go to benefit the Center for Hope Hospice and Palliative Care in Scotch Plains, a non-profit organization offering services to terminally ill patients and their families.

Bone art exhibit at Vienna 60: "Framework" is an art installation of ethically obtained bone specimens brought back from the dead. At 7 p.m., artist Nina Cio unveils her newest work, a series of painted bones. Mediums include oils, Sennelier pigments, pastels, and mirror pieces, and acrylic liquitex agents. All creations are available for sale & custom orders will be taken. 

Adopt a new pet at Parker Gardens: Summit Animal Rescue Association will hold the organization's 4th Annual Pet Adoption Fair on Saturday and Sunday at Parker Gardens in Scotch Plains. The event is open to the general public. There will be a number of cats, kittens, dogs, puppies, and guinea pigs (Sat only) for adoption. Plus, check out the schedule of events.

Visit Fanwood's historic Victorian train station & the Osborn Cannonball House in Scotch Plains: Both local historic sites will be part of Union County's Four Centuries In A Weekend event Oct. 19 & 20. The train station hours will be 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday, noon to 5 p.m. on Sunday. Your host both days will be George Weiss, Fanwood's resident railroad historian, who will show videos chronicling the history of the Central Railroad of New Jersey and have historic artifacts on display. Click here for more about the train stationThe Osborn Cannonball House Museum, located at 1840 Front Street, will be open on Saturday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Sunday from 12 to 5 p.m. and will feature a display of news articles and period clothing of  “Lincoln/Kennedy: Two Eras, Two Assassinations.” Also check out the museum's newly acquired 1880’s Mason and Hamlin reed pump organ. Costumed guides will conduct tours.

Free movie night at the Fanwood Presbyterian Church: At 6:30 p.m., watch the documentary "I Am" on the big screen. This film combines beautiful footage, animation and in-depth interviews with prominent philosophers, scientists, and  spiritual leaders about what ails the world in its depths and the emergence of a scientific and spiritual awakening.  Admission is free. For directions or further information, call 908-229-2029 or check the
