Raiders Football Opener, Democrats Reelection Kickoff

What's happening today in Scotch Plains and Fanwood.

High school football opener: The SPF Raiders travel to Berkeley Heights to face Governor Livingston in the season opener. The game starts at 4 p.m. in Berkeley Heights. 

Local dems kick off reelection campaign: Join Senator Nick Scutari, Assemblyman Jerry Green and Assemblywoman Linda Stender as they officially kick off their re-election campaign at the Scotch Plains Italian American Club from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Admission is free and there will be complimentary refreshments as well. 

Fenimore Drive closed: Fenimore Drive will be closed this morning between Mohawk Lane and Cooper Road for Water Comp work. Work will begin at 8:30 a.m. and should open by noon. There will be no thru traffic on Fenimore between Martine Avenue and Cooper Road. Once done with Fenimore, the Water Comp will close Cooper Road between Fenimore and Terrill Road. This closure should begin about noon and last till about 5 p.m. Ponderosa Park will accessible during the morning hours from either direction. Accessibility to the park once Cooper Road shuts down will depend on where the Water Comp is digging at any given moment. The Scotch Plains Police Department will be on site to enforce the closure and assist pedestrians, residents, and students walking home.
