ARE YOU WORKING FOR FREE? DON’T BE TAKEN ADVANTAGE OF; BECOME A SMART JOB SEEKER AND LEARN YOUR RIGHTS

The plot of the The Internship, a recent comedy film starring Vince Vaughn and Owen Wilson, centers on the two middle-age men being laid off from their jobs as watch salesmen when their employer goes out of business.  They apply for an internship at Google, then spend the summer competing against other interns for coveted jobs.  Sound familiar?

Our challenging job market has inspired a spike in so-called adult internships and other unpaid volunteer positions.  Should employers pay you for your time?  What are your rights under New Jersey’s employment law?  How do you protect your interests and add relevant experience to your resume?
