Congregation Beth Israel and The Jewish Community Center of Central New Jersey Bake Challah Together for Charity

Congregation Beth Israel has teamed up with the Jewish Community Center of Central New Jersey to participate in a  "Challah for a Dollah" program that raises funds for charity.    This is a cooperative venture between the Religious School of Congregation Beth Israel and the Youth and Teen Department of the JCC of Central NJ, both in Scotch Plains.

Once a month, students in grades six through eight from Congregation Beth Israel meet with other Jewish teens in the community to bake challah (traditional Shabbat bread). The students then sell the challah for a dollar per loaf, on Wednesday evenings at Congregation Beth Israel and on Fridays at the JCC.   At the end of the school year, proceeds from the sales will go to a charity of the students’ choosing.

To order a challah, or for more information on how your child can participate in the “Challah for a Dollah” program, contact Elly Bauman, Education Director of Congregation Beth Israel, at 908-889-1830 or Lindsay Napchen, Youth and Teen Director of the Jewish Community Center of Central NJ, at 908-889-8800.
