Congregation Beth Israel Builds Sukkah

Volunteers from the Men’s Club of Congregation Beth Israel in Scotch Plains built the synagogue’s Sukkah (booth) on Sunday, September 8, in preparation for the Jewish holiday of Sukkot.  In keeping with tradition, the volunteers erected the Sukkah on the synagogue’s outdoor patio to replicate the temporary huts that their ancestors dwelled in while wandering in the desert.  Congregation Beth Israel’s Religious School students will decorate the Sukkah with paper chains and artwork on Wednesday, September 18; the holiday of Sukkot begins that evening at sundown.  Throughout the week-long celebration of Sukkot, congregants and Religious School students will be able to eat in Congregation Beth Israel’s Sukkah
