Congregation Beth Israel Volunteers With Habitat for Humanity

Volunteers from Congregation Beth Israel in Scotch Plains assisted Morris Habitat for Humanity in building a home in Madison on Sunday, May 4. The volunteers installed insulating materials and applied sealant to a three-bedroom, two-bath home in Madison. The house is one of three Habitat houses being built on the property where a paving company once stood.  The house will be occupied by a woman who has a son with special needs and two daughters, all in their twenties.

Congregation Beth Israel partnered with Habitat for Humanity as part of its Mitzvah Day, a day of service within the community for volunteers of all ages. Additional projects included: packing toiletries to be distributed to needy families through Bridges Outreach; holding a bake sale to raise money for the American Cancer Society’s Relay for Life; creating artwork and painting flower pots for local nursing home residents; sending cards to Israeli soldiers and U.S. Service members; washing cars to raise money for Jewish Family Service’s food pantry in Elizabeth; and cleaning up debris from Brookside Park in Scotch Plains.
