Girl Scout Week Recognized in Fanwood and Scotch Plains

The Fanwood Borough Council and Scotch Plains Township Council both issued proclamations honoring the Girl Scouts of the USA at their March 18, 2014 meetings. The Scotch Plains proclamation of Girl Scout Week was accepted by girls from Brownie Girl Scout troop 40329 and Junior Girl Scout troop 40729, while girls from Junior Girl Scout troops 40821 and  40279 were on hand in Fanwood.

In accepting the proclamations girls noted that there are more than 800 Girl Scouts in Fanwood and Scotch Plains from kindergarten through high school, and hundreds of volunteer leaders. They listed some recent local Girl Scout service projects, including running 8 different activities at Martin Luther King Jr. Day of Service, including making crafts, games, and fleece blankets to be donated to local hospitals, making foods for food pantries, and making dog treats for a pet rescue center.

They also thanked Fanwood and Scotch Plains residents for ordering nearly 42 thousand boxes of Girl Scout cookies, which are being delivered this week. Council members were presented with some complementary cookies, and all residents were invited to visit Girl Scout cookie booths around town in the next few weeks.
