"Jews and Christians- A Journey of Faith"

On Thursday, March 13th, the Fanwood Presbyterian Church and Temple Sholom welcomed about 40 Jews and Christians who broke bread, had fellowship, and watched and discussed the interfaith PBS documentary "Jews and Christians- A Journey of Faith."  Rev. David Jahnke expressed much excitement about this bridge-building program and added, "This program will help Christians better understand and revere the Jewish religion of our Rabbi Jesus and those who practice it.  We expect that the dialog will bear fruit for every individual involved and increase the cooperative community service of Jewish and Christian leaders in our area."    Temple Sholom's Rabbi Joel Abraham added, "The Fanwood Presbyterian Church has been a generous host to our congregation over the past 10 years.  We have studied together as the pastors of the Church and I have guested on each others' pulpits, and visited each other in worship.  Pastor Jahnke and I wanted to take the next step and have our congregants study together.  That other members of the community have joined us is a greater blessing.  We look forward to this being the beginning of a new stage in our congregations' relationship."
The gatherings will continue for the next four weeks on Tuesdays at 1:00 p.m. and Thursdays at 6:45 p.m. (soup) and 7:30 p.m. (movie and discussion) and all are welcome.  The topics for next week will be: 1. Messiah and the Kingdom of God, 2. Resurrection and Afterlife, 3. Passover, Easter and Eucharist, and 4. Sin, Repentance and Atonement.  The church and temple share space at 74 South Martine Ave.
