Pajama Havdalah Program at Congregation Beth Israel

Congregation Beth Israel in Scotch Plains will host a Pajama Havdalah program on Saturday, February 8, from 6:30-7:30 p.m.  Sponsored by the synagogue’s Religious School, the Pajama Havdalah program is for children from three years of age through second grade.  The program is open to the community, and parents and grandparents are welcome to attend with the children.

Participants will learn the prayers and rituals for Havdalah, a Jewish ceremony that marks the end of Shabbat and the beginning of a new week.  Because Havdalah takes place at night, children are invited to arrive in their pajamas.

The Pajama Havdalah program also will include games, crafts and make-your-own ice cream sundaes.

“This is a fun way for families with young children to experience Havdalah,” said Elly Bauman, Education Director of Congregation Beth Israel.  “And it’s also a great way for these families to get to know each other over ice cream.”

Congregation Beth Israel is an egalitarian Conservative synagogue, serving the religious, cultural, educational and social needs of congregants from Scotch Plains, Fanwood, Westfield and surrounding towns. Its award-winning Religious School offers classes from pre-school through 11th grade, as well as special needs instruction.  Synagogue membership is not required for Religious School classes through second grade.

To R.S.V.P. for Pajama Havdalah, or for more information, contact Elly Bauman at 908-889-1830 or at school@cbisp.org.  A $10 donation per family is suggested to help cover expenses.

Congregation Beth Israel is located at 18 Shalom Way, Scotch Plains, NJ  (corner of Martine Avenue).
