Literacy Volunteers to Honor Grammy Award-Winning Singer-Songwriter Rosanne Cash at Fall Gala

Literacy Volunteers of New Jersey and Literacy Volunteers of Union County will honor Grammy Award-winning singer/songwriter and author Rosanne Cash when the two groups celebrate Improving Lives through Literacy” at a joint gala fundraiser on Wednesday, November 13, 2013 at Shackamaxon Country Club in Scotch Plains, New Jersey. 

This star-studded evening is designed to raise critical funds for Literacy Volunteers, which dramatically improves the lives of functionally illiterate adults throughout New Jersey by teaching them to read, write and speak English.

Other Gala honorees include: Commissioner Harold J. Wirths, State of New Jersey, Department of Labor & Workforce Development; Rev. Dr. DeForest B. Soaries, Jr., Senior Pastor of the First Baptist Church of Lincoln Gardens in Somerset, NJ; and Henry Goldsmith of Mays Landing, retired Literacy Volunteers of New Jersey President.

Literacy Volunteers recruits, trains, supervises, and supports volunteers to provide free, student-centered tutoring for adults struggling to read, write, and speak English. 

"We are honored to have tremendous support for our Gala from many notabilities throughout the state including:  Authors Judy Blume and Junot Diaz; Dennis Bone, former CEO of Verizon NJ; Roselle Mayor Jamel Holley; Senator Tom Kean; Asw. Linda Stender; and Rafael Toro, Goya Foods,” said Elizabeth Gloeggler, executive director of Literacy Volunteers of Union County.

“Our GALA 2013 planning committee, chaired by Carl Salisbury, Esq. of Westfield and Hollie Teslow, Esq. of Morristown is hard at work planning the November gala, lining up sponsorship support, selling ad space in the Gala commemorative journal and gathering prizes for the Gala Auction,” said Gloeggler.
