Fanwood Historic Preservation Commission Receives $1,500 Grant from Union County

Commission receives half its proposed grant, long-time commissioner steps down and more from the October meeting.

On Tuesday, Oct. 4 the Fanwood Historic Preservation Commission met at the Community House.

The commission had applied for a $3,000 grant and was awarded a $1,500 grant from Union County.  Since they will only receive half of what they need, they will buy one glass display case for the Museum, rather than two.

John Celardo announced that he would be stepping down as a commissioner, as well as the Planning Board.

Celardo has served on the Planning Board and Zoning Board for over 25 years.  He has been on the Historic Preservation Commission for ten years.

He will be leaving the Planning Board and the Commission at the end of 2012.

The current progress of the Carriage House renovation was also discussed.

On Oct. 15, Zinno, a preservation contractor, will begin to repair the wall that is bowing out, replace the north side doors and install updated outdoor light fixtures.

In 2013, the Commission plans to complete the survey of historic homes and continue the inventory of Museum Holdings.
