Fanwood Library Hosts Family Story Time

There's nothing like a good story time ...

Once again, the Fanwood Memorial Library conducted its monthly family story time. Despite the inclement weather, parents and kids turned out to enjoy some great stories. They listened attentively to children's librarian, Miss Susan, as she told stories such as Teeny Tiny; Plumpy, Dumply, Pumpkin;  Pumpkin Soup, and Otis.

The stories' subject matter ranged from friendship to the importance of small things. The participants enjoyed every moment of the story time, as they interacted with Miss Susan and asked questions that arose in their minds.

Suzanne, one of the parents, noted that the story time not only gets the children interested in reading, but it has also helped her child become more curious about the world. It has helped him to become more disciplined as well, as he must sit quietly on the floor with a group of other young children and listen to the stories.

Suzanne comes out every month for story time she says, and she has noticed her son become more curious about the world after attending the sessions, and, she says, she herself is learning about things she previously did not know about too.

The library's objective with the story times, Miss Susan says, is early literacy. The library believes parents who might have a busy schedule just do not have the time to actually get books, and read to their children. Coming out for the family story time allows their children enjoy a few stories and begin to wonder about the world around them.

Miss Susan was an excellent story teller, who was able to capture the attention of the children for half an hour, and she was very patient with the really young ones who did not have a great attention span.

Storytimes are held on a regular basis, check the Fanwood Memorial Library calendar for more details including times and age-groups. Upcoming dates include Oct. 6, 12, 13.
