Fanwood Resident Designs Home for Sandy Victims on ‘George to the Rescue’

Amre Griffin owner of rienú in Fanwood designed a home for Sayreville victims of Hurricane Sandy on an episode of "George to the Rescue."

Amre Griffin, a Fanwood resident and owner of rienú interior design company was featured on an episode of George to the Rescue on NBC where she designed a home for a family who's home suffered damaged during Sandy.

Griffin provided a little bit of flair to the living room and dining room in the home of Joe and Janet Misiur and their two daughters, while still keeping the feel of their New Jersey neighborhood, she said in the episode.

The Misiur’s purchased the Sayreville home in 2001 as a brand new construction, during Sandy a nearby river traveled through the woods and into the basement and first level of the family’s home. Since Sandy hit, the Misiur’s did not move back into their home until George and his team came to the rescue.

“There are people helping us and we don’t even know them and that is hard for us because I would like to individually thank them,” homeowner Janet Misiur said in tears during the episode.

Her husband Joe added that, “words can’t say what this means to us.”

Griffin chose a light blue color for the living room and used a few circular mirrors on a sidewall and added a built-in shelving unit to hold the television and other smaller items such as books and picture frames.

In the dining room, she used damask navy blue wallpaper, circular mirrors, a cherry wood dining table and added gold accents.

Griffin provided some tips in the episode, some of those being that each day homeowners should flip and move around their couch cushions and also that it is okay to mix silver and gold. Griffin also felt the mix of silver and gold she used in the Misiur’s home helped transition the living room space into the dining room.

“I’m a Jersey girl and I love Jersey and it meant so much to me during Sandy to help out another family,” Griffin said before the reveal. “They lost everything and now they are going to come home today and the house is stunning and they are going to be so happy.”

When the Misiur’s returned for the reveal of their home the family of four was speechless and Janet began crying.

Even after the reveal, Janet still could not hold back tears as she spoke of her newly renovated home.  She said she never expected she could provide this for her family and it truly is a dream come true.

“I’ve seen your work, I know what you could do but I never expected it to look like this,” Joe said. “This is beautiful.”
