Fanwood to Hold Remembrance Ceremony For Newtown Shooting Victims

In a message from Mayor Collen Mahr, the Borough will a Service of Remembrance at Fanwood Presbyterian Church on Dec. 21 at 9:30 a.m.

A Message from Mayor Colleen Mahr

The massacre of the innocents in Newtown, Connecticut, has affected all of us as we grieve collectively as a nation and as caring human beings within our own community. Who among us hasn't hugged their children just a little harder this past week?

I want to assure our citizens that I have had regular and ongoing discussions with our Board of Education, our representatives on the Board, parents and our police department to keep the security of our schools top of mind.

Tomorrow, on the one week anniversary of the shootings, the Fanwood/Scotch Plains ministerium will welcome everyone to an interfaith Service of Remembrance, Intercession and Hope for Newtown and our nation Friday, Dec. 21st at 9:30 AM at Fanwood Presbyterian Church, Martine and La Grande Avenues.  Church bells will be rung for lost children of God and for the hope of new life. Prayers and songs will be lifted up for all who have been impacted.

Let's keep the spirit of the Newtown angels in our hearts as we celebrate the promise of life and hope during this holiday season.

Sincerely,
Colleen Mahr
