JCC To Host Workshop For Wannabe Triathaletes

The Triwomen SPFW will teach the ins and outs of triathlons tonight at 7:30 p.m.

The Triwomen SPFW is holding a workshop at the Jewish Community Center in Scotch Plains at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday night.

The workshop, hosted by Amy Carow, is an informational session for any women interested in learning about the world of triathlon—an athletic event combining the activities of running, biking, and swimming. Workshop attendees will learn about the ins and outs of such an event, including terms and vocabulary used, necessary equipment, and proper clothing. Carow's workshop will also teach attendees about proper transitioning between biking, swimming, and running.

“[The workshop] is good for our members, as most of them participate in it,” said JCC Aquatics Director Kimberly Koza. “They are gearing up for a triathlon in either August or September, and first timers and veterans will be there. This workshop helps women get ready to be tri-athletes and it also helps us bring in new members. While training, they use our pool until September and some attend swim lesson classes.”

Host Carow is no stranger to the athletic circuit. In the past five years, she has participated in over 30 events, including triathlons, 5ks, and 10ks. This past November, she completed the Westfield Five Mile Turkey Trot in 45:07.

The Jewish Community Center of Central Jersey is a non-profit center that offers programs for people of Jewish heritage in recreational, educational, and cultural areas. They request that those attending the workshop to arrive early and be prepared to present identification. The triathlon is one of their most popular programs.
