Middle Schoolers Step Up to Help Union County's Literacy Volunteers

'What terrific, thoughtful and generous boys,' said the nonprofit group's grateful Executive Director Elizabeth Gloeggler.

Thanks to four students at Terrill Middle School in Scotch Plains, adults enrolled in Literacy Volunteers of Union County’s free English as a Second Language classes will have notebooks, pens and other assorted school supplies this year.

Eighth graders Michael Bonnell, David Budiansky, Liam Reilly and Kyle Tam, all of Scotch Plains,  collected and donated dozens of school supplies for their service learning project as part of their social studies class under the direction of their social studies teacher, Sarah Whitehouse.

“How wonderful for our students, adults with the greatest educational and financial need who are working hard learning to read, write and speak English,” said Elizabeth Gloeggler, executive director of Literacy Volunteers. "What terrific, thoughtful and generous boys!”
