UC St. Patrick's Day Parade Committee Names Grand Marshal

Jim Tansey, a supervisor in the Prosecutor's Office and a Newark native, will lead this year's parade in March.

The 2013 Union County Saint Patrick’s Day Parade Committee has announced that Jim Tansey has been named grand marshal of the 17th annual Union County Saint Patrick’s Day Parade.

Tansey, the supervisor of the Special Prosecutions Unit in the Union County Prosecutor’s Office, has been involved with the Union County St. Patrick’s Day Parade for many years, and has served as a trustee and a division adjutant.

“On parade day I will be celebrating my heritage and my family,” Grand Marshal Tansey said. “I will be marching in honor and in the memory of the deceased members of my family who were all proud Irish Americans.”

A native of the Vailsburg section of Newark, Tansey traces his Irish roots to Counties Roscommon and Mayo. All of his grandparents were born and raised in the heart of Connaught in the west of Ireland.

“Irish eyes will be shining down on us from heaven as we march,” he added. Grand Marshal Tansey will share parade day with his children in a celebration of their Irish heritage. He is looking forward to marching with daughters Bridget and Grace, and his son Owen. Bridget will serve as his Chief of Staff, and Owen and Grace as Grand Marshal Aides. The grand marshal is also a bagpiper with the Essex County Emerald Society Pipes and Drums who will be proudly marching down Morris Avenue in Union.
