With the arrival of a new year, Patch wants to know: What resolutions would you make for Scotch Plains and Fanwood in 2014? What issues will you be paying attention to in the coming year?

In Scotch Plains, a new council with the addition of Republican Llewellyn Jones will continue to discuss issues like the preservation of the town's historic Shady Rest.

Will the Scotch Plains and Fanwood police departments merge? The issue is still being discussed by both governing bodies, after much debate in the first public meeting presenting the merger.

In Fanwood, 2014 will bring a new skatepark and more development on Fanwood Crossing II, while 2013 brought the reopening of Fanwood landmark the Seafare Chippery.

The new year will also bring the first court appearance for the Fanwood gunman who shot at police in an 8-hour November standoff.

What Changes Would You Like to See in Scotch Plains, Fanwood in 2014? A new training center to help upgrade their work skills.. (for people who unable to travel far other.) New employment agencies..that truly help people to find work. Affordable Apartments. Fix all the bad streets..too many potholes (No more patching up streets) Find a solution to lower taxes in both townships.

I'd like for everyone to become aware of things such as "Agenda21" "The Illuminati" and how they brainwash people through Hollywood movies, Tv, Music industry, & school. I'd also like to see more people become aware of the fraudulent monetary system hosted by the Federal Reserve private banking cartel. In 1913 this cartel secretly met with Woodrow wilson and bribed him into giving the monetary control over to them in exchange for a Presidential win in the election. this broup of banks...Chase, Wells Fargo, Citi Group, Bank of america, & Goldman Sachs created a pyramid scheme where the government goes to them everytime they want to borrow money and they turn on a printing machine to make the fake money and the government has to pay it back with interest. Because of this America is 17 Trillion in debt. Each and every dollar taken from your pay check under "Federal" goes directly to this group of banks, not the government. this is why there is a pyramid on the back of the dollar. It represents nothing more than a pyramid scheme....Slavery! Youtube search "The creature from Jekyll Island"

Lower taxes, the option to have my child ride a bus to school, better timing on the lights on Martine through downtown Fanwood so there is less Martine traffic and a chance to actually cross the street before the light changes, and a small movie theater in downtown Fanwood (maybe a two-screener).

I'd like to see more widespread solar power, charging stations, removal of all lights in town; in favor of circles, and a crackdown on slow drivers.

Deven, if you think traffic is bad now just see what circles would do. i too prefer circles but most people are not good at navigating them, primarily women & elders. Good thought though.

Public outreach to get residents to recycle more. Recycling is a net benefit to the town. We can make more $$$ if residents try to be as efficient as possible and recycle as much as they can. I know this is a dream but, 8 acres is for sale on Terrill Rd, close to Raritan rd intersection. The town should purchase property and immediately turn it into a park. We can try and receive green acres or open space grant funding.

Merging the towns together, lowering taxes, & direct to NYC service on all trains.

Would like a sizeable supermarket warehouse in sp. It will make shopping so easier 4 Scotch Plains residents and other neighboring residents. Scotch Plains has the real estate.. Why must we always have to go Fanwood.. Watchung, Garwood, Westfield. (No offense) NO more expensive HOMES in SP. SP needs MORE affordable apartments .(Owned and managed by the township.(.The birth of the SCOTCH PLAINS TOWNSHIP APARTMENTS) Apartments that fit in one's budget..(No credit check necessary. Just good old fashion references will do.)

A merging of the towns, recycling pickup for all, more commerce that draws people to the towns, and direct trains to NY. Merging of the towns is key!

Yes, merging Fanwood and Scotch Plains is key. I hope it happens soon. It will help keep our property taxes down. It worked for Princeton.
