La Rafle (The Round Up), directed by Roselyn Bosch, is playing at the AMC Loews Mountainside Theatre.
La Rafle is about the long taboo subject in France, the infamous Vel' d'Hiv round-up. It is brought to stirring life in this gripping drama starring Melanie Laurent (Inglourious Basterds) and Jean Reno (The DaVinci Code). Two days after Bastille Day 1942, more than 13,000 Parisian Jews, including more than 4,000 children, were arrested and interned before being sent to Auschwitz. With a meticulously constructed script based on extensive research and firsthand accounts, La Rafle brings us inside these events, revealing both the heartless complicity of the Vichy elite and the heroism of some ordinary citizens.
The Film Festival is sponsored by the JCC of Central New Jersey in Scotch Plains.
