Author Simon Van Booy

Simon Van Booy, an award-winning author, will speak at the Scotch Plains Public Library on Thursday, October 21 at 7:00 PM.  Mr. Van Booy is the winner of the 2009 Frank O'Connor International Short Story Award, has written two volumes of short stories, numerous articles and essays, and has a novel and children's book underway.

For his presentation at the library, the author will discuss Why We Need Love. Mr. Van Booy will read aloud and engage participants in discussion and reflection on how being exposed to some of the great thinkers of our times can change one's outlook on life, how philosophy can help you if you are unlucky in love, and on viewing television shows like "The Bachelor" as a microcosm of the human experience–and why he feels that reading Walt Whitman might spare the contestants the need to go on those shows to begin with.

Books will be available for purchase and signing.
