Carriage House Poetry Series for May

The Carriage House Poetry Series invites you to attend a free poetry reading on Tuesday, May 18, at 8 p.m. in the Patricia Kuran Arts Center on Watson Road, off North Martine Avenue, adjacent to Fanwood Borough Hall. (GPS use 75 N. Martine Avenue.)

The featured readers will be distinguished poets Therése Halscheid and Bob Rosenbloom.

Therése Halscheid received a 2003 Fellowship for Poetry from the New Jersey State Council on the Arts. She is the author of four poetry collections, including Powertalk (1995), Without Home (2001), and Uncommon Geography (2006), which was a Paterson Poetry Prize finalist. Widely published in journals and anthologies, she has been an artist in residence at Acadia National Park in Maine, and she received a Dodge Fellowship to the Vermont Studio Center in 2005.

Bob Rosenbloom is co-director of the Somerset Poetry Group and has been published in numerous anthologies and journals. He is an attorney and former stand-up comedian, and his poems come from a deep emotional center. Often "tongue-in-cheek," his work has a particular sympathy for childhood, family, and all that's right and wrong with the world. Bob's chapbook, Reunion, will be published this autumn by Finishing Line Press.

The Carriage House Poetry Series is currently in its 12th year at the Kuran Arts Center, an historic Gothic Revival structure that was once a 19th century carriage house, hence the name of the series. The May 18 reading is free and open to the public. An open mic will follow the featured performance and audience members are invited to read one of their own poems.
