The Congregation Beth Israel is hosting its annual Shabbat Family Dinner and Hanukkah Show. This event will take place this evening Friday, December 16, 2011 at 5:45pm.
Sponsored by the synagogue’s Sisterhood, the family-friendly dinner will feature a traditional Friday night Shabbat meal along with customary Hanukkah fare. After dinner, the CBI Players, a student performance group, will put on an original Hanukkah-themed show, designed to appeal to all ages. Congregation Beth Israel’s Friday evening services follow at 7:30p.m. The evening is open to the community.
This year’s show, “Who Needs Presents?” tells the story of a group of young people who discover the true meaning of Hanukkah. It was written and directed by Alison Simon, a Westfield High School junior and student in Congregation Beth Israel’s Akiba Academy Hebrew High School. The play features a cast of students of all ages from Congregation Beth Israel’s Religious School.

“The Hanukkah Dinner and Show is always a really fun evening for both adults and kids and a great way to start off the holiday season,” said Rachel Scharf, Sisterhood event co-chair. “The young children especially enjoy watching a play performed by other kids. And afterwards, parents can introduce their children to our casual, family-friendly Friday night services,” said Ms. Scharf.
