Day of Percussion

From the world of rock ‘n roll and classical music, four world-famous percussionists will perform and teach on stage at the Day of Percussion on Saturday, February 12 at the Scotch Plains-Fanwood High School.

Performances begin at 9 a.m. with percussion ensembles from Scotch Plains-Fanwood High School, Ridge High School, Metuchen High School and Randolph Middle School.

Clinics begin at 12:30 p.m. with Dennis DeLucia and The Bridgemen Drumline.  DeLucia is considered one of the most renowned percussion arrangers, teachers, clinicians and judges in North America.  At 1:45, marimbist Leigh Howard Stevens will take the stage.  Stevens was hailed by Time Magazine as “the world’s greatest classical marimbist”, best known for developing the Stevens technique or Musser-Stevens grip.  Drummer Tommy Igoe is described in Modern Drummer Magazine as “a new drumming power, breathtaking, inventive and disarmingly strong.”  Igoe’s clinic begins at 3 p.m.  Danny Seraphine is one of the world’s most highly respected rock drummers, rated by the legendary Buddy Rich as one of his favorite young drummers.  He was the drummer, percussionist and a founding member of the multimillion-selling, Grammy award-wining band Chicago.  Seraphine’s clinic is scheduled for 4:30 p.m.
