Imperial Brass Concert at Willow Grove Presbyterian Church

Hear Imperial Brass in concert on Sunday, June 13 at 3:00 p.m. at its home, Willow Grove Presbyterian Church in Scotch Plains.  Imperial Brass is a 30-piece brass ensemble known throughout New Jersey for performing a diverse array of musical numbers. The concert will feature renowned jazz cornetist Warren Vache. Cornetist Mitch Brodsky and Euphoniumist Barry Morrison of the West Point Military Academy are also featured as soloists.

The concert is a potpourri from Russian composer Dimitri Shostokovich to Henry Mancini, J.S. Bach, Jerome Kern and British composer Philip Sparke. Also included are Edvard Grieg's classic, "The Last Spring", the music of Erik Leidzen, Ray Steadman-Allen and Tone Poems by prolific British composer Eric Ball

Part one of the concert will be conducted by Dr. Thomas McCauley, the conductor of the Montclair State University Wind Symphony and Symphonic Band. Following a brief intermission, the second part will be conducted by Col. Torgny Hanson, who recently retired as Inspector of Military Bands in Sweden.

Imperial Brass has recorded four CDs, the most recent being Bone-A-Fide Brass with Joseph Alessi, principal trombone with the N.Y. Philharmonic and Have Yourself a Brassy Little Christmas. It is the goal of Imperial Brass to introduce audiences everywhere to the wonderful world of brass.

Tickets are on sale in advance and at the door.  Ticket prices are $15, seniors and students - $12, and free for children 12 and under. Following the concert a reception with light refreshments will take place. The concert location will be the sanctuary of Willow Grove Presbyterian Church, 1961 Raritan Road in Scotch Plains as part of the Music and the Arts ministry.
