Literacy Volunteers of Union County will celebrate its 25th anniversary with a celebrity gala honoring Emmy Award-winning journalist Byron Pitts of CBS “60 Minutes,” Pulitzer Prize-winning author Junot Diaz, author of “The Brief Wondrous Life of Oscar Wao,” and Goya Foods on November 2, 2012 at Shackamaxon Country Club in Scotch Plains.  Also being honored are Bonnie Andersen of Berkeley Heights, Karen MacQueen of Chicago, and Donna Sandorse of Plainfield for the key role they played in the founding, development, and growth of the organization.

The non-profit organization based in Roselle and serving all of Union County, recruits, trains and supports volunteers to provide free, student-centered services for adults struggling to read, write, and speak English.

"We are thrilled to have the opportunity to celebrate this significant milestone in the history of our organization,” said Elizabeth Gloeggler, executive director.  “This celebrity event will raise critical funding support for our organization, which serves adults with the greatest educational and financial need throughout the county.”
