Underneath the Harlem Moon

African-Americans have been a presence in the history of cinemat since its beginning.   Brooklyn based film/video archivist Russell Scholl presents a program showcasing the pioneering work of black actors and filmmakers from the first half of the 20th Century. This historical program includes "All Colored Cast" shorts as well as excerpts from feature films, and incorporates drama, comedy, cartoons and Soundies (short music films made for coin-operated 'video jukeboxes' in the '40's. The contemporary viewer will see how some things have changed and others remain the same.
