Fanwood Bagels Fresh Brew Voted Best Coffee in SPF

With 37 percent of the vote, it's clear that Fanwood Bagels & Deli has local caffeine addicts abuzz.

This week, Scotch Plains-Fanwood Patch who makes the best coffee in town. For most of the week it seemed like corporate coffee and convenience giants and could not be beat. In the end, underdog came out on top with a cool 37 percent of the vote.

Founded by Woodbridge residents, Pat and Lori Carlin, Fanwood Bagels and Deli has catered to local families and train station commuters for 12 years. The secret to their fresh hot brew cannot be found in blended concoctions, sugary syrups or frothy espressos. In fact, what makes each cup so delicious is as simple as the Bagel Shop’s decor.

“There really is no secret,” Manager Joanie Monroe said. “We use Colombian beans manufactured by T.W. Ward Coffee - a company that has been in the coffee business for over 100 years. Each pot is made from freshly ground beans and we don’t skimp on the flavor. We are constantly making coffee.”

By the time 2 p.m. rolled around on Friday afternoon, each of the four coffee pots were already empty. Monroe stated that the Bagel Shop can go through as many as six pots in ten minutes on a busy morning and beans are freshly ground from classic metal Bunn grinders every five to ten minutes.

“I just started drinking coffee a week ago and now I drink ours all the time,” Christina Carlin, the smiling daughter of Pat and Lori said. “It’s really good.”

If you’re looking for a great bagel, stop into Fanwood Bagels and Deli. Like the coffee, the bagels are made fresh every morning. Bakers Justin Day stated that using only the finest ingredients keeps customers from all over the county coming back for more.

“When it comes to our coffee and bagels, we use only the best ingredients,” Day said. “Some bagel chains use cheap flour, but our bagels taste the best because we choose top quality every time.”
