Owners of K-9 Resorts In Fanwood to Open Six New Locations Across NJ

Jason and Steven Parker, owners of K-9 Resorts Daycare & Luxury Hotel, are expanding the business across New Jersey and one location in Virginia.

The successful Fanwood business, K-9 Resorts Daycare & Luxury Hotel, will soon be popping up around New Jersey as owners Jason and Steven Parker began to franchise the company.

As long-time Scotch Plains residents the Parker brothers opened K-9 Resorts in Fanwood following a childhood full of begging their parents to let them get a dog.

When achieving great report cards and completing all of their chores didn’t turn their parents into dog people, the brothers resorted to starting their own dog walking and pet sitting business.

After seeing much success, the brothers realized that what they wanted to do was start their own business and work for themselves.

In 2005, Jason and Steven opened K-9 Resorts Daycare & Luxury Hotel on South Avenue in Fanwood, just a step over from their hometown of Scotch Plains.

Since the age of 23, Jason, now 25, has been the youngest franchise owner in America, Steven said, adding that his brother is often too humble to admit it.

Since opening the business, the brothers knew they wanted to expand the business outside of Fanwood and in 2010 their plans started to come to fruition.

In 2013, five new locations will open in New Jersey. The new K-9 Resorts will be located in Fairfield, Chatham, Marlboro, Middletown and Basking Ridge. Additionally, the brothers are franchising out a location in Fairfax, Virginia.

If anyone refers a promising franchise candidate to Steven and Jason and the candidates are approved for a franchise, the brothers will provide the person who referred the candidate $5,000. Within this year alone the brothers awarded $10,000, Jason said.

Steven said he believes K-9 Resorts stands out amongst the competition due to variety of factors combined, rather than just one feature.

“I think we take everything to the next level,” Steven said. “We take cleanliness to the extreme.”

He added that he likes to compare their services to buying a car, rather than just one outstanding feature; you choose to have as many luxury features as possible.

For example, K-9 Resorts Daycare & Luxury Hotel uses hospital grade cleaning materials, a purified air ventilation system and special flooring with Microban. Additionally, they also place a major focus on training for the staff members.

The website also states features such as Cage-Free boarding options, designer suites by Snyder and Premium Kuranda dog beds.

“I think that’s why we’ve been rated number one,” Steven said.

New Jersey Monthly Magazine and The Courier News have both rated the business number one.

K-9 Resorts Daycare & Luxury Hotel offers both daily dog watching services, as well as multiple day services with no maximum stay.  Also a minimum stay of five days is only required during peak times, such as the summer months.

In early 2013, the brothers will hold a groundbreaking ceremony along with the franchise owner for next K-9 Resorts Daycare & Luxury Hotel located on  Route 35 in Middletown.
